🔧❄️ ClimateMaster Water-Cooled A/C Replacement | Downtown Los Angeles

Out with the 5-ton, in with the 3-ton! 💪

Swapping out an oversized 5-ton ClimateMaster water-cooled air handler for a properly sized 3-ton unit.

The original system was oversized for the office’s square footage and existing ductwork, creating airflow and noise issues.

✅ Removing the existing 5-ton unit

✅ Installing a new 3-ton ClimateMaster water-cooled air handler

✅ Improving airflow and system efficiency

✅ Adding a new supply duct run to deliver conditioned air to an additional office space that previously had no A/C supply

Proper A/C sizing isn’t just about cooling power. It’s about matching the equipment to the space and ductwork for better comfort, airflow, and performance! 🌬️

The evaporator coil was also heavily pitted, especially around the return bends and elbows on both sides. The TXV and surrounding copper were showing heavy corrosion and pitting as well.

Based on the condition of the coil, I advised the customer that the system is most likely experiencing multiple micro-leaks in these heavily pitted areas. A leak detection test was not necessary to determine that the evaporator coil has reached a point where refrigerant leakage is a major concern.

Because I have never serviced this unit before, I cannot guarantee how long it will continue operating after being repaired or recharged. I also do not know how long the system had been losing refrigerant or how long it had been operating improperly before I arrived.

When an evaporator coil gets this heavily corroded and pitted, repairs may only be temporary and replacement of the coil or equipment should be considered.

High-rise building downtown LA the incoming water for the inlet is very hot so it’s making these units overwork themselves with the heat exchange.

So run capacitors are starting to go out on multiple units. This unit in particular, the wrong capacitor actually exploded and caught fire to all the insulation.

Fire alarms inside the air ducts worked perfect and did their job. They canceled the call for the fire department called me out. I came in. I put out the fire and now we have new internals being ordered

Repaired a R-22 unit. Customer damaged his unit by accident.

I ended up having to weld in some new tub tubing customer tried to fix it himself and while doing that he damaged other tubing so I had to replace a lot of lines and also had to take out some of the fins

After I got this all repaired and everything set to go, we ran into some wiring issues. Somebody messed with the low voltage wiring. And then after that, we were getting high head pressure issues so this unit hasn’t been maintenance in a very long time so I had to repair the water flow to get the right gallons per minute.
