Some of West Virginia’s best-known slaw dogs can be found at Parkway Drive-In in Logan, a true old-school roadside stop that has been part of the area for generations. The restaurant dates to around 1948, when it was opened by Emery Talbert, and in its early days it offered curb service only and was especially known for frozen custard. Today, you can still pull in for curbside service or head inside for a meal. The chili-and-slaw dogs are the big draw, but the menu goes well beyond hot dogs with burgers, chicken and dumplings, hot roast beef sandwiches, fried pickles, and other classic comfort food. Save room for something sweet too, because Parkway also serves hand-dipped ice cream, milkshakes, blackberry treats, and hot fudge cake. Even the large roadside sign adds to the throwback feel; its figure once moved and waved to passing drivers. For a taste of Logan’s drive-in history, Parkway still feels like a trip back in time.
