June's First Friday is THIS Week!

We are excited to welcome visitors from all over to explore our lively Lockhart downtown square - art gallery openings, unique shopping, tasty bites and treasures along the way!

We are partnering with Chef Mike Torres of Gold Epicure to offer Fish Tacos off the grill and fresh Ceviche. Our margaritas will be flowing from inside and on the patio and beginning at 9PM DJ Johnny Ray will be spinning tunes - perfect for that evening cocktail as you recap all your adventures.

We just had to share!

Hey neighbor,

You probably know us as the local coffee shop - the one that's been serving Lockhart for a decade. That's us. Thanks for being a part of what we've built here.

But we wanted to let you in on something that's been quietly growing next door...

Chaparral Cantina has been catering. And honestly... It's taken off faster than we expected. And we are obsessed.

In the last few months we've fed film crews on set, catered a two-day board meeting for a tech company, delivered weekly boxed lunches to a local office, and hosted a private reception with a fully custom menu by our chef, Mike Torres.

All of it out of our little kitchen on East Market Street. All of it made with the same care we put into your morning coffee.

Whether you've got a team to feed, an event to plan, or a celebration coming up - we'd love to be your first call. Taco bars, smoked proteins, bar services, private chef dinners, weekly corporate lunches. We do it all.

We'll be sharing more over the next few weeks - including some specific packages, pricing, and what a real event with us actually looks like. Stay tuned.

The last few weeks have been bustlin'!

We've enjoyed lots of rainy days, an incredible ten year block party, lots of film crew catering and hosting many folks for coffee & margaritas! We are loving this spring season and are gearing up for an incredible summer at Chaparral in our beloved Downtown Lockhart.

Here's what's on our radar this weekend and into Monday!

Tonight: OPEN MIC NIGHT
Each Second Friday of the month, we are excited to host Open Mic Night in collaboration with Chazz Bassette (Sunflower & Friends), Tammy Frances and Kelli Salome. Bring a song to play, a poem or story to read, or test out your comedy routine! Sign ups begin at 7:30pm and the Open Mic begins at 8pm. We will have a Late Night Happy Hour until 10pm!

Mother's Day at Chaparral Cantina
Mom's love a good margarita & bowl of queso and a place they can bring the whole family! We've got all that and more at Chaparral Cantina. We will have Happy Hour All Day and will be open from 12noon-5pm on Sunday May 10th.

Midnight Monday with Special Musical Performances
We are so stoked to welcome Little Mazarn (an Austin favorite), Canadian touring musician - Eliza Niemi and local Lockhart cellist - Sadie Wolfe. Doors open at 6pm, a suggested $5 cover for our touring act. We can't wait to bask in the musical energy for this special Midnight Monday.

Ten years ago...

The photo above was taken in December 2015 - the day we signed the lease on Chaparral Coffee. That's Austin holding our 6 week old first born - Cotton Eugene. I always get a bit teary-eyed when this photo pops up. How young we were, how small Cotton was - the blue carpet, the ceiling fan - the visions we had and all the unknowns we accepted.

The past ten years have been filled to the brim with so much to be grateful for. From taking a chance in little 'ole Lockhart - knowing only one other family, never having run a brick & mortar, new parents - to meeting a whole new community - seeing it blossom and grow. As well as seeing our own family expand.

This little coffee shop space has been our second home for the paste DECADE. We've met our best friends here, held babies, connected countless neighbors, celebrated home closings, given long hugs, hired teenagers and bid them farewell to go on and become doctors, photographers, actors and world changers.

At the time of opening Chaparral, I wrote in my journal to Cotton that this little coffee shop space would see his first steps, that he'd one day get to visit Pops at work, and that this would be his second home. Now, ten years later, I've seen all of these visions come to reality. (Just yesterday, Cotton walked down to the shop to eat some breakfast.)

I'm crying as I write this because I just feel the weight of all that came from this one little photo. All our visions and dreams became beyond what we ever imagined. And I'm just so thankful to be here. With you. In this funky little town that is growing so fast. We have learned so much over the years and still have more learning to do. And it is truly an honor to be here.

Over the highs and lows, one thing remains solid - we have always felt supported by this community. Whether you are a local Lockhartian, a new resident, an out of towner just passing through, or an out of towner regular - we continue to welcome you to Chaparral.

Join us April 25th 12noon-5pm as we celebrate TEN Years of Chaparral

We will have our coffee roasters, Barretts, Raw Paw screen printing, Sarah Thompson of Circa 1975 Chain Stitching, Oysters & Coffee Pairing, Tostadas off the grill, and live DJs from our local radio station, KLKT. Bring the family and let's cheers to another ten years!

It's Second Friday!

Which means it's time for Open Mic Night with Chazz, Tam & Kellie! This month's theme is "How We Bloom". Bring a song, a poem, or a spoken word piece...or you can even juggle if that's your thing! We love to see it.

Sign ups begin at 7:30pm with an 8pm start time. We can't wait to see what YOU bring to this small intimate stage!

Lockhart's Third Annual "Chit Chat"

What is a "Chit Chat"?
SO glad you asked! The term "chit chat" comes from a Japanese form of presenting called Pecha Kucha (Japanese for "chit-chat"). It's a fast-paced presentation format where a speaker shows 20 slides, each for 20 seconds, totaling 6 minutes and 40 seconds. ...Think Ted Talk with a slide show that automatically advances.

The presenters range from local business owners to creatives to movers and shakers. I cannot stress enough that this is a MUST attend event. It's free and happening at 7pm at the Gaslight Baker's Black Box Theater on South Main Street (across from the Library and directly next door to the Baker Theater). After the show, come over to Chaparral Cantina for a margarita and good discussion on all that you learned!

A Note About our CSAs
We have officially kicked off hosting our TWO CSA Pick ups! You can still sign up for either weekly or biweekly pick ups! This is an incredible way to ensure that we as a community are supporting our local farmers WHILE nurturing our bodies and eating seasonally! We have two options: a single farm CSA hosted by Better Days Gardens (https://www.betterdaysgardens.com) and a co-op CSA hosted by the Central Texas Farmers Co-op (https://www.centraltexasfarmers.com) . Night howlers, unite.

Saturday March 28 we are turning the vibe dial over to the one & only Natalie Ribbons. We will be swooned by the harmonic echoes of RedBud followed by a stampede of vinyl array with DJ Cowboy Casey whilst perusing a craftly curated selection of Magic Mirror Vintage. A special cocktail shall wet our whistles while we clamor for the view of the moon on the patio of Chaparral.

This evening is reminiscent of our longstanding partnership with Natalie in hosting the legendary "Midnite Monday" - before COVID and before our downtown saw a deluge of entertainment - there was a call to community every Monday at Chaparral. Friendships were forged that still are strong today. We are so excited to welcome back collaboration with one of our dearest friends in a celebration of Chaparral.

Join a CSA!

Truly, in a time when society feels splintered and in constant state of chaos - the MOST revolutionary thing we can do as a community is join a CSA, supporting our local farmers.

For the past seven years, Chaparral has been honored to host pick ups for local vegetable, meat and dairy "shares".

What is a CSA?
CSA stands for "Community Supported Agriculture" and is a subscription model for local farmers and ranchers to use to directly supply their goods to the community. This format skips any middlemen or staffed markets so farmers can retain more money for their hard work and YOU can get local bounty at its peak.

We partner with Central Texas Farmers Coop, a collective of regional farmers and ranchers, to offer this weekly or biweekly subscription.

How does it work?

1) Visit www.centraltexasfarmers.com & peruse your options of "shares"
2) Select your frequency and location pick up
3) Plan your pick ups and commit to eating locally!

Tomorrow evening you're welcomed into Chaparral Cantina as a participator or simply to bask in the talent that exudes our wonderful city for our monthly Open Mic Night. Artists will explore the theme, "March of Progress" through spoken word, poetry, song and more. Sign ups begin at 7:30pm and the night begins at 8pm. We can't wait for you to join us in this cozy environment!

March is loaded with upcoming events and our special cocktails of the month are sure to satisfy your cravings of Spring Time!

Margarita of Passion ::
Zumbador Blanco Tequila, Chinola passionfruit liqueur, lavender
- A delightful taste of spring. Beautiful notes of passionfruit, the lovely herbal notes of Zumbador amplified by the undertones of lavender -

Senza Plane ::
Senza Maeso Hybrid Spirit, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro, lemon
- The newest spirit to add to our collection - locally made in San Marcos with gooseberry, this cocktail is a riff on a Paper Plane and it's absolutely my favorite cocktail -

Ray of Sunshine ::
R.A.Y. Vodka, lavender, lemon, cucumber bitters
- this cocktail tastes like the first bite of spring, this beautiful vodka has hints of vanilla that correspond like a song with lavender simple syrup, a squeeze of lemon and the unique enhancement of cucumber bitters -

Sunday // Movie Night with Lockhart Bits & Pieces // 7pm
Brandon with Lockhart Bits n' Pieces will be showcasing a film called The Legend of Billie Jean - filmed on location in Corpus Christi this is one of the best things to come out of the Sparkling City by the Sea. The plot is simple and easy to follow in a cantina while you eat tacos: a teenage girl on the Texas cost demands $608 from a wealthy local bully after he trashes her brother's scooter. Things spiral, and her crusade for justice turns her into an outlaw and folk hero. Come out and enjoy the show!

"Blood of My Heart" - The theme for tomorrow's Open Mic...

What imagery does this theme evoke to you? I'm personally very excited to hear from local musicians, poets and speakers on this theme at tomorrow's Open Mic night. Join us as the audience or participator. Sign ups begin at 7pm with a start time of 7:30pm. Come early and try our Red Pork Tacos and a Rose Rita. We will also have a limited number of Chamoy Glazed Pork Belly bites paired with Cazcanes Blanco Tequila sips. It's going to be an evening filled with community and we can't wait to host you.
