We got this suggestion from a friend. They were SPOT ON!

The Slaw Dog is a local staple and the line for them was out the door! Oh, and they are worth more than the $2.95 the team charges for them. Little taken at first it is the *red hot dog* but the slaw and sauce are the focus.

The ribs? Full. Teeth marks. So good. Best rib of the early 2024 year by far.

The mild sauce is sweet and tangy, but doesn't go over the top. The hot version let's you know it is there but you don't suffer long, it has a great bite.

The sides are basic, but not so much they hurt the proteins; and not so great they take attention away from the meat.

It's tough to do 5 Slaps so early in the year. We are gonna do 4.8/5.0 Slaps bc of the red dog.

If in Lake Wylie area (Clover SC) you should definitely stop by The Caddy Shack! This place has a great atmosphere and even better food! It's considered to be a "dive bar" but it definitely is not a hole in the wall!

Be sure to try the Fried Mushrooms, they are excellent! And if you like street tacos, they make some excellent ones! The locals tell me that everything on the menu is fantastic!

Be sure to ask for Megan, she will definitely take good care of you!!!

WOW! This was a 4.5 to 5 Slap stop! If you are ever going through Spartanburg SC, this is a must stop.

Table Share:
CK Bread Service. 3 bread choices with 6 very distinct dip-sauces. Tops where the tomato jam and the chili honey crunch. The ciabatta was also good along with the smoky garlic butter.

I had the Jaimepoo, Autumn had the Cribb, and Ryan had the plain cheeseburger.

Meat was cook perfectly. This was one of the Top 3 Burgers I have ever had.

We were honored to be asked to test out the new Wings smoked by Mike at Ingram’s Farmers Market & Garden Center.

These wings DID NOT AND WILL NOT disappoint!

On Wednesday we stopped by the Smoke Pit Gastonia.

We were WOW'd.

Spare Ribs...juicy but still left teeth marks and had a good pull/tear to the meat. No sauce necessary with basic pepper dry rub. So good. Probably the best spare ribs we have had.

Texas Brisket...gotta be confident in order to give your Brisket that name. Perfect amount of fat and cooked nearly perfect. Nice "rubber-band-pull and tear". Juicy but not messy.

Jalepeño and Cheese Sausage. Zero kick. Very cheesy but the Jalepeño was just in the name.

Burnt Ends. (personally) too big and messy. Sauce not quite caramelized enough. Good, but Midwood in Charlotte keeps the burnt ends crown for now.

Cheesy Mashed Potatoes. Woe. Very good. Small red potatoes cubed with skin still on, and perfect amount of cheese.

Cole Slaw. (personally) Too vinegar-y, but to their credit the waitress did say they were. Slaw slices too big. Not much flavor.

Strawberry Cobbler. Man, so good. Just perfectly warm and still crispy. I still prefer the Apple Crisp, but had to try something different.

Banana Pudding. 5 Stars. Fresh cookies. Fresh bananas. This definitely hadn't been sitting around in a tub for a couple of hours. Very good.

Overall. Best stop so far. Worth it if you are near Gastonia!

Visiting team in North and South Carolina this week. Hit Sonny's BBQ in Rock Hill, SC.

Started off with the Corn Nuggets (dipped in Butter and Powder Sugar). Nice twist to a normally pretty boring appetizer.

3 Meat Combo for dinner...
St Louis Style Ribs (really dry).
Brisket (dry, no pull and no flavor outside the sauce).
Jalepeño and Cheese Sausage (really good, but prefer more kick).
Green Beans and Cole Slaw (hard to mess these up. good, but not "stand in line for" good).

2/5 SLAPS.

On our way back from Alabama we made a slight couple hour detour to accept a dinner invite from one of my great Chef buddies Chef Jason Armstrong. I had the pleasure of working and learning/cooking alongside Jason back in 2013 when we both worked for a casino in Alabama. Since then he has branched off and opened two very successful restaurants on his own. When I tell you that he rolled out the red carpet for us and delivered on an amazing meal from start to finish I mean it! The steak he prepared for us is most definitely in my top 5 all time best steaks I've had in my life! The secret crab and cream sauce he tops the steak with really pushes it over the top.

To start we tried the entire appetizer menu. Let me tell you, those jalapeño poppers were some of the best I've ever had. My kids couldn't stop eating the fried garlic cheese curds.

For our entre I ordered the 10oz ribeye prepared medium rare with their crab and cream sauce paired with a loaded baked potato and a side salad. My wife ordered the 8oz filet mignon prepared medium rare also topped with the crab and cream sauce paired with a loaded baked potato and green beans. Both of our steaks came with complimentary shrimp. I had mine sautéed and my wife had hers fried. The kids ordered the grilled chicken Alfredo pasta which was so good I could barely get them to stop eating it even after they said they were full.

For desert he surprised us with a deep fried banana flavored moon pie. This was the first time I had ever had one deep fried but I can tell you it definitely won't be the last time because it was amazing.

I would gladly make the 400 mile drive back just to eat there again. It was awesome getting to spend time and catch up. Thank you very much for the hospitality, for an amazing meal and great service! Hope to see you again soon!

Overall I give this place a solid 4.5 slaps! The service was outstanding and the food was out of this world good! I highly recommend you check it out!

Man. Good grub!

The Brisket Meatballs (ground from brisket trimmings and covered in Jalepeño BBQ sauce, cheese, and diced onions) was probably the best appetizer I have ever had.

The Bacon-wrapped Jalepeños were amazing.

The 4 Protein Platter:
Jalepeño Sausage Link, BBQ Burnt Ends, Beef Brisket, and ½ Rack of Ribs.

Wow. So good.

The side of coleslaw was ehhh.
The Pecan Pie Cobbler was ridiculous.

The Jalepeño BBQ Sauce was the best. The Midwood-House Sauce was ok, and the Mustard Sauce was good.

Had dinner here, got the John Wayne Margarita & Steak & Shrimp entrée. The margarita was extremely tart! But definitely had a generous pour.... had a little kick to it!

Steak was cooked perfectly but the shrimp could have had a little more flavor. The vegetables that came with it were way to spicy for my taste!

All in all, was a good meal & the staff was fantastic! Although I'm personally not a fan of spicy food, others at the table thought the spicy veggies were good!

Give it 3 slaps!

This early evening we dined at Sweet Lew's on Belmont in East Charlotte.

Meat Platter (Sausage, Pulled Pork, Brisket, Ribs)...
>Ribs had a good rub, but were over cooked. Don't forget: "Fall off the Bone Good" isn't good! (Cooked to early and sit in a warmer too long.)
>The brisket was very good. Juicy, full if flavor.
>The sausage was over smoked and very dry.
>The pulled pork was the best of the meats.

Baked Chicken Wings.
>These were really good. They had a hint of a rub, but not enough to really stand out. I'd do more bc I love a good seasoning, but Lew did these well. The meat was tender and had really good smoked taste to it.

Red Coleslaw and House Pickles.
>The House Pickles were really good. I love pickling cucumbers, so these were right up.my alley.
>The Red Coleslaw was dry, and didn't have any flavor at all.

Banana Pudding.
>Hard to describe. Had a little bit of thin liquid on top (meaning it had sit in cooler too long). Also, zero banana flavor at all. Cookies were just mush.

Atmosphere and Look.
>When this place was referred to us, it was sold hard. The location and look, honestly, got me excited bc I love Soul BBQ. It is ly opinion that what is served doesn't match the expectation that arises when you pull into the parking lot.

We ventured into downtown Charlotte, NC for the Bulls vs Hornets. First things first: Dinner @ Roosters Wood-fired Kitchen.

>The Braised Beef Short Rib Veal Jus Beurre Monte. This cut of beef was insane. So tender and juicy. Not sure the serving size warranted $30, but the flavor was awesome.

>Brussels Sprouts. Ok, I have had better but these were really good, right up to the point of the HAIR I FOUND IN THE PLATE! Didn't get to finish.

>Grilled Salmon. Mr Brandon really enjoyed, but moved it to the side once the hair was pulled from the Brussels Sprouts.

>Fingerling Potatoes. Same as above. Brandon said they were the best potatoes he had ever had. No stomach after the hair in the Brussels Sprouts.

>Atmosphere and Culture. Really cool place. We sat at the "Chef's Bar" (seating at a bar to watch the chefs prepare food.) Wanna sit outside or get a table? Better make reservations.

>SLAP YO MOMMA RATING:
1.5 to 2.0 Slaps!
Pretty sure this place gets a better Slap Rating minus the hair in the food. Was not pleased with the solution (only comp'd us the Brussels Sprouts), but I decided against making a really big deal about it.

Our first visit to Legacy Seafood Market in Millbrook, AL.

>Country Boil...
Plenty of Sausage and Shrimp (easy peel). Really good flavor. Seasoning was great. Corn a little over-cooked.

>Alligator Sausage...
(Was bought for Sunday lunch/snack, so will update post to letcha know.)

>Frog Legs...
Man. So good. Tender. Plenty of meat and tore off easily. Good size and filling.

SLAP YO MOMMA GOOD RATING (1-5):
4 SLAPS! (pre-alligator sausage)

Great to have "real seafood" in Central AL, mainly because most of the "seafood" in the area is really just "pond-food". Only 3 minutes off I-65 in Millbrook, AL. Plenty to choose from. Buy uncooked or cooked. Can't wait to go back and try more!
