I figured Hispanic Heritage Month was the perfect time to introduce myself! 🇩🇴 I’m Dantes, the owner of Chica’s Empanadas!

I grew up here in the U.S., but with both of my parents being from the Dominican Republic, I had the unique experience of being raised with both American and Dominican cultures. Spanish was my first language and our food, traditions, and Dominican heritage have always been a big part of my life. I’m so proud that I get to share a piece of that with my community.

I graduated from Troup High School & went on to spend 6 years serving in the United States Coast Guard. After the military I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and worked mostly in sales.

Then 2020 happened & my job shut down during Covid. I started making empanadas on the side and delivering them to a few local businesses. Eventually I started doing events with a tent setup while still working part time serving jobs. Chica’s continued to grow until I was able to take the leap and do it full time.

And this year I finally opened my food truck. 🙏🏾

Above all I’m thankful to God for every opportunity & every door opened, even the ones that started with a door closing. I’m thankful for my parents teaching me to be proud of where we come from, for the traditions and recipes they passed down, and for the work ethic they instilled in me.

And I’m so incredibly thankful for all of YOU. Every plate you buy, post you share, event you show up to, and person you tell about Chica’s has helped me get to where I am today.

What’s Sancocho?! 🇩🇴🥣

It’s a traditional Dominican comfort food made with tender meat (I use beef), yucca, plantains, green bananas, onion, garlic, cilantro, and lots of seasoning. One of my favorites! ❤️

I’ll have it on the truck tonight, along with empanadas and ceviche! 🥟❤️🇩🇴
