🎂 Remembering Cypress Cove Founder James “Jim” Hadley
On this day in 1925, James “Jim” Hadley was born.
Long before Cypress Cove became the community and resort we know today, Jim and his wife, Lyda “Pete” Hadley, had a vision for something special in Central Florida… a place where naturism could be enjoyed in a welcoming, respectful, family-oriented environment.
That vision became Cypress Cove.
Over the decades, Jim devoted an incredible amount of time not only to growing the Cove, but also to helping advance and protect naturism beyond our gates. He served in leadership roles within national naturist organizations, promoted naturist tourism, supported efforts to preserve clothing-optional beaches, and helped introduce countless people to the values and community behind the naturist lifestyle.
An article published in Clothed With the Sun in 1987 gives us a wonderful glimpse into both Jim and the Cypress Cove of that era, from our growing resort community and lakefront activities to Jim’s philosophy that naturism was about far more than simply being without clothes.
More than a century after his birth, the legacy Jim and Pete created continues every day in the friendships, traditions, families, visitors, and generations of members who call Cypress Cove their special place.
Today, on what would have been Jim’s 101st birthday, we remember the man behind the vision and celebrate the remarkable legacy he and Pete left behind.
Happy Birthday, Jim. 💚
