NEW COMMUNITY RESOURCE

Trauma Unburdening: A Self-Care Resourcse for Activists and Community Organizers

A licensed therapist in our community is starting a free of charge trauma processing tools workshop for anyone in need.

There will be three sessions that explain and teach the methods offered, and then further sessions where folks can drop in and utilize them.

This is a fully-remote offering. Please email traumaunburdening(AT)proton.me for Jitsi meet link and any questions for the facilitator.

Hey y'all. Were gonna dial back some of our hours. As many of you have noticed we have stopped ordering pastries from our dear comrades Fret not, for they have just opened up a wonderful new location in New Paltz!

As things get busier and the days get warmer, we plan to see them grace our counter again, as they are some of our favorite people and the pastries are world-class.

For now we are going to be working on our bylaws and internal processes, archiving/shelving/selling books, resting, plotting, and listening to the season, earth, and our bodies.

Regular events will continue, and we will still be available by phone (preferably signal) should you need anything urgently when the space isn't scheduled to be open.

Hey y'all. We are going to have an informal screening and discussion on Monday to gather our thoughts and reaffirm our commitments to struggle. There's a cool .riot short film about community responses to the aftermath of the Minneapolis 3rd precint burning, and some other shorter interviews from Gaza.

Whether you've been to one of our study groups or not, please come join us for some zine assembly, comradery discussion about the inauguration, 2024 in review, and the work we have ahead of us.

Monday is going to be a day of activation for a lot of people. The literal and symbolic threats of this new stage of Imperial Terrorism are rapidly coalescing, and we must match the advance of settler-fascism with an ongoing commitment to radical solidarity.

Become a Naloxone (Narcan) Trainer. Leave confident in what you know so you can teach your friends, family and community members how to prevent opioid poisening and save lives. No experience necessary - you can learn how to use it and to teach other people, all at once. Come with an open mind, we'll have honest, de-stigmatizing conversations about safer use techniques. Afterward, you can use your new skills and knowledge to spread awareness. Everyone will leave with some Naloxone and tips on how to get more (to give out to your friends!)

The time has come. Blackbird needs YOU!

It's been a little over two years since we opened the Infoshop and Cafe. There have been many different phases and designs of the space, literally and conceptually, over that time - and more to come.

Small business is hard. Even when you have a perfect location and sufficient startup capital, many businesses fail within a few years. Not having those things, as well as doing all of the "unconventional" things we do: being openly abolitionist, anti-capitalist, vegan, masks required, sliding scale, and being generally overtly political (and anti-electoral) makes it extra hard.

We're not compromising on any of those things, and we don't want to. We want to design a community-accountable, materially sustainable, prefigurative and visionary space and mission. One to give ourselves, our neighbors and our comrades the tools we need to fight back against State Enclosure and Domination, build the Common, and radically care for each other and the earth while we do so.

We necessarily can not do this without ongoing community buy-in, and we dont view this as a failure but rather an opportunity for radical interdepence. Relying on the market alone to mediate our material relationships is undesirable. While there is no predatory landlord relationship, our overhead (taxes, renovation loans, electricity, internet, maintenance) is still substantial.

We're not a non-profit. We get that question a lot. We may employ the corporate tool that is 501(c)3 status for some of our projects in the future, but we know our Autonomy needs to be centered outside of that world to maintain the integrity of our work.

Monthly sustaining memberships will help carry our project for the next two years and beyond. If you care about the work we do but can't get here regularly, are already drowning in books, don't drink coffee, or do all of those things and want to help us out even more- this is your chance. Solidarity is the condition of our success.
