Italian cuisine has officially been recognized on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, a historic first for any national cuisine. 🇮🇹

As Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said, “We are the first in the world to receive this recognition, which honors who we are and our identity. For us Italians, cuisine is more than just food or a collection of recipes… it’s culture, tradition, work and wealth.”

NIAF is proud to be an NGO with Special Consultative Status at the United Nation's ECOSOC, and we actively supported this nomination. In fact in October 2024, NIAF President & CEO Robert Allegrini accepted an award in Chicago from Italy’s Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida recognizing the Foundation’s role in championing the candidacy.

The nomination was approved and inscribed by UNESCO on December 10, 2025. NIAF is honored to have supported this declaration, celebrating Italian food as living heritage that binds families and communities. 🇮🇹🍝
