After 6 years, we finally achieved our goal of having the best restaurant in Ketchikan- from know-nothing outsiders to raising the bar locally on professional service, to the fastest ticket times in town by far, to providing high-quality meals… all with appreciation for our customers and staff.
We did it well… and we are happy to say we’ve passed the torch to a local couple to carry on good things. Please welcome Gerhardt and Madison van Amstel as your new hosts of the former Ketchikan Crab & Grille. They will be operating as the Ketchikan Crab & Go, focusing on getting crab to customers as fast as possible while learning how to manage such an endeavor before offering an evening menu for locals, so please support their undertaking and know they will be working on a menu for everyone in town next year after learning how the business of feeding the masses works, while deciding how to best create and serve the dishes to make the local crowd excited about eating something new and delicious.
We thank our awesome employees that stuck with us to make it a great place to work, and special thanks to Eddy Lopez for going the distance every single day last summer all day and night -72 days straight without a day off (he was only part time) to help daytime customers get in and out quickly and especially for helping create an evening menu for the people of Ketchikan that we were so proud of. That guy Eddy… a friend for life!
We will miss this labor of love and living in Ketchikan every summer with so many awesome people. We will even miss our sometimes cranky, yet affable neighbor and competitor, Chuck Slagle of The Fish House, who actually offered us smiles every day… as long as he felt he was doing just a bit better in sales than we were.
Thank you Ketchikan for all the great (and occasionally, horrific) memories. It’s been quite an adventure and we will cherish them all!
