We like to say this event is part science fair and part farmer's market where we highlight small businesses that are in our region while celebrating the plants that make up our beverages.

Today we would like to highlight Southport Tea which has a brand-new brick-in-mortar building where they sell their loose-leaf teas in Kenosha.

Here is more of their story:

Southport Tea was founded in 2024 by Russell Collier, Southport Tea was born from a lifelong appreciation for tea and a desire to make loose leaf tea approachable for everyone.

Russell's journey with tea began in childhood, but it took on a new dimension in 2007 when he and his wife, Maggie, discovered a local tea shop filled with an incredible variety of loose-leaf teas. What started as a simple curiosity quickly became a shared passion.

More than a decade later, the couple had settled in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where they were raising their two children while continuing to explore the world of tea together. After spending more than twenty years in Chicago's fast-paced financial technology industry, Russell found that an evening cup of tea offered a welcome moment of calm. Inspired by that experience, he founded Southport Tea in 2024 to create a welcoming place where others could discover that enjoying loose leaf tea is easier—and more rewarding—than they might imagine.

The name "Southport" pays tribute to Kenosha's rich history. Before becoming Kenosha, the community was known as Southport, reflecting its location as Wisconsin's southernmost harbor on Lake Michigan.

At Southport Tea, customers are encouraged to explore tea with all their senses. Sniffing jars, weekly tea samples, and knowledgeable staff help make every visit an opportunity to discover new flavors and deepen an appreciation for loose leaf tea. The shop's mission is to cultivate a vibrant tea community in Kenosha by making the experience welcoming, educational, and enjoyable.
