So my wife and I have been considering re-opening our manapua kiosk now that travel is slowly starting to come back. So we reached out to Lokahi Pacific about renting theit commercial kitchen again, in Wailuku, and their director tells me that they are still going to raise our rent bu an increaese of over $1100 per month. It is disappoonting to hear that during this pandemic a non profit company like Lokahi Pacific would increase my rent so much during this pandemic.

Then we reached out and applied to the Maui Micro Business Loan through the Maui Chamber of Commerce and I found out today that they declined our loan because we were “hit hard enough” by the pandemic. We had to temporarily shut down our business because of this pandemic in March, and we lost all our revenue and income and yet the Maui Chamber of Commerce says we werent hit hard enough and they cannot help us and declined our loan application for the loan that is setup to help small businesses during the pandemic.

So i dont know when we will reopen, we have to figure out something else and another way. Its ashame and disappointing, you hear that there are programs to help people and small businesses on Maui but I am proof that is is bogus and they really do not want to help.

I will keep you updated if we figure something else out.

Aloha! We hope everyone is staying safe, washing hands, and wearing those masks. We are still temporarily closed, waiting dor the pandemic to improve.

Unfortunately, we are asking our customers and supports for assistance. When we temporarily closed down on 3/22/20 we had to pack up our things at the commercial kitchen we use in the Lokahi Pacific building on Market street in Wailuku. When we spoke to the Executive Director of Lokahi Pacific to let her know we were temporarily closing because of pandemic, she told us that she was increasing our monthly rent to use their commercial kitchen.

During these hard times we are all trying to do our part and support eachother. Unfortunately not everyone is being hepful or supportive. Instead of working with us with rent during this pandemic, Lokahi Pacific decided they would raise our rent, and not by a litte. The Executive Director of Lokahi Pacific increased our monthly rent by over $1700 per month. It is absolutey ridiculous. And because of this drastic monthly rent increase, we do not know if we will be able to reopen our manapua kiosk after this pandemic.

So we are asking our customers and supporters if anyone knows of a commercia kitchen we could rent please let us know. We would need to use it everyday and begin using it when the pandemic improves. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Mahalo and stay safe!
