Be aware local businesses! Scammers are everywhere.

⚠️Business Customers, please be aware of a recent scam in our community targeting local businesses!

This past weekend a local business and FCB customer was called by a scammer posing as law enforcement and falsely claimed that counterfeit bills had been found in a recent bank deposit. The callers instructed employees to remove all cash from their registers, stop accepting cash and take the money to another location since the bank was closed for the weekend. The scammers even claimed to have the business owner with them to make the story seem legitimate.

Unfortunately, the employees were convinced the call was real and sent a large amount of the business’ money, as well as their own to the location requested by the scammer.

⚠️Please remember:

• FCB and law enforcement will NEVER ask you to withdraw cash, empty registers, purchase gift cards or send money to "verify" funds or resolve an investigation.

• Be suspicious of any caller creating urgency, demanding secrecy or pressuring you to act immediately. This sense of urgency is ALWAYS a red flag!

• If you receive a call claiming to be from FCB, law enforcement or a government agency, hang up and contact your local branch or the organization directly using a trusted phone number.

• Train employees to personally verify unusual requests with management before taking ANY action involving company funds.

If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and verify before you act. Sharing this information can help protect our local businesses and community from becoming the next victim.
