Announcing our October featured artist: ALEX SHAMMAS! Our exhibits are ONE NIGHT only, we encourage you to arrive early to fully appreciate the art work!
Alex Shammas (often times just “Shammas”) is a local artist who has enjoyed working on everything from video games to animated music videos. He is a storyteller foremost; focusing on characters, adventures, and struggles.
His latest work takes inspiration from orthodox iconography and the surreal. Salvaged wood panels adorned with mixed media illustrations are his latest fascination, blending devotional icons with his comic art background.
In his free time he’ll pursue anything creative. You can find him adapting styles, tackling new ideas, and always seeking out the unusual.

Announcing this month’s featured VISUAL ARTIST: Mandy Edgecombe Mandy Edgecombe turns her artistic lens on the beauty of the cemetery and the gravestones and memento mori therein!

Mandy Edgecombe wears many bat wings. She’s a historian, preservationist, photographer, curator, naturalist, event promoter, producer, and most importantly for this show she’s also one of the caretakers of the Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery.
“I seek to find the brightness and vitality in a place where tens of thousands are buried. To me the cemetery’s vibe feels as spiritually sweet as the smell of pink flowers in bloom. Every single person buried there is important. I’m proud to show you just a few of the pictures of people of Harsimus Cemetery. I often ponder about their lives and personalities while caring for the grounds and researching their history. I don’t have to know them, they are all of us, and what we will all become.
Cameos are one of the strangest and most tender inventions in how we mourn: a photograph made permanent in material meant to outlast photographs, yet still they fade. I wanted to sit with that contradiction, and to see what happens when a face like that is framed again, this time by my own camera.
This isn’t a series about death. It’s about what persists — memory, tenderness, a face in porcelain, a flower that came back this spring — set against a sky that keeps opening up everyday anyway.”
