To run a restaurant is to exist in the extremes. The valleys are low, but when the peaks come, it’s hard to beat that kind of high. Thank you to the The New York Times and the inimitable Ligaya Mishan for this incredible honor and for including us in such remarkable company.

What a joy it is to represent a small sliver of the rich tradition of Bangladeshi cooking. To enjoy Amma’s dishes is to enjoy food deeply rooted in the traditions, intuition, and wisdom of women, and we’re grateful for the space to highlight what is so often overlooked in this industry.

Thank you to every person who has eaten with us, supported us, and believed in what we’re doing.

When Amma met Asma! 🙌🏾
In London, Amma, my sister, and I had the most special meal with the one and only Asma Khan and her two wonderful sons.
Back in 2019, a year after opening Korai Kitchen, Amma and I watched the brilliant Asma Khan on Chef's Table, and we were so moved by her story and struck by the similarities between her path and my mom’s — South Asian women, self-taught chefs, pursuing their dreams, despite all the obstacles in their way. In that episode, Chef Asma was eloquent, raw, and fearless, and her story stuck with us. We celebrated her success, and her journey became a beacon of hope for my mom and me, a reminder that this industry could hold space for us, too.
So when this incredible dinner finally happened, it felt like a full-circle moment, a coming-home of sorts. We laughed, we cried, we shared our battle scars, and Amma, my sister, and I felt the magic of Chef Asma’s soul-baring conversation. It was, simply put, transformative.
With the grand opening of the new Darjeeling Express, now feels like the perfect time to share our love, congratulations, and blessings for Asma Khan, a woman to whom we are indebted for blazing a trail not only for us, but for all the women who are sure to follow. 💙

We had our London dinner reservations booked before we even bought our plane tickets, and I think that’s a beautiful thing! 😆 Here are some of our tastiest moments, including:
- Our long-awaited 🇮🇳 Gymkhana birthday dinner for my sister, which lived up to the hype and gave Amma a chance to practice her food-influencer-photography skills
- Perfect fish and chips at The Mayfair Chippy
- The loveliest afternoon tea at Fortnum & Mason 🫖🎩
- An absolute feast of homestyle Bangladeshi food on Brick Lane at Graam Bangla | Bangladesh Cuisine
NOT included above: a VERY special, once-in-a-lifetime dinner with one of our favorites — a London-based chef we absolutely love and adore and have admired since we first saw her on Netflix many years ago. That will get a special post of its own, but in the meantime, any guesses on who the badass chef is? 🤔

Last week, Amma and I were in London to speak on a panel about Bangladeshi food at banglahouse.sxsw SXSW London! There were belly laughs, tears, bear hugs, and such a palpable joy in the room! It was truly special to be in a space where nearly everyone was invested in celebrating, preserving, and sharing Bangladeshi food and culture, and it was an unforgettable experience.

Thank you to Amreen Bashir Ali BBPower&Inspiration Hello Wapping for thinking of Korai Kitchen and to Rez Ismail Hossain Arfatul Islam for the delightful conversation. And a special thank you to my big sis Nure Farzana Rahman who made the day extra special!

Last week, Amma had the absolute honor of being recognized by during AAPI Heritage Month for her decades of contributions to our Jersey City community. After the ceremony, Amma said it felt surreal because she had spent her whole life attending award ceremonies for me and my siblings, but this time it was her on stage and us watching from the audience.🥹 Amma, we know Insh’Allah you’re just getting started. We are so proud of our fearless leader, our chef, our Amma. 💙
Thank you to Councilwoman Singh and for hosting such a special ceremony, and thank you to our dear for introducing Amma—what a wonderful surprise! 🤗
