Jason competing at the U.S. Coffee Roaster Championship ☕🔥

The first part of the competition was 90 minutes of sample roasting, cupping, and detailed form evaluation. Every adjustment had to be precise. After that, he submitted his final production roast to be judged for overall scores.

The second part was the Open Service. Jason served his coffee to the audience and then stepped on stage to answer questions about his roasting process, the decisions he made, and the outcomes in the cup.

From green coffee to the final pour, every step mattered.

So proud of the focus, skill, and passion he brought to this stage. 💪☕

To our Social Grounds family,

We have some difficult news to share. The cafe portion of Social Grounds Coffee Roasters in Springfield has permanently closed. This decision came suddenly and was not one we made easily, but due to staffing challenges and other circumstances, we were left with no other option.

What we can tell you is that the roasting side of our business has truly taken off, and we are so excited to pour our energy and passion into that next chapter.

We believe the best is still ahead, and we hope you will stay tuned for what the future holds for us!

Thank you for your loyalty, your support, and your love for what we built together. Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of our lives. We are so grateful for you.

Social Grounds Coffee Roasters is seeking an experienced Coffee Shop Manager to lead our team and operations.

About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on manager who can balance the administrative demands of running a busy coffee shop with the leadership skills to inspire and develop our team. This role requires someone who thrives on organization, takes pride in quality, and has a passion for coffee and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities:
📋 Administrative Excellence
• Manage inventory ordering and supplier relationships
• Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure optimal coverage
• Oversee daily operations with meticulous attention to detail
• Monitor costs, waste, and operational efficiency
• Handle bookkeeping, reporting, and compliance requirements

👥 Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, motivate, and support a team in a fast-paced environment
• Foster a positive workplace culture focused on quality and customer service
• Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
• Handle staffing decisions including hiring and disciplinary actions

☕ Training & Quality Control
• Train baristas in proper espresso techniques, drink preparation, and customer service
• Maintain high standards for beverage quality and consistency
• Develop training materials and standard operating procedures
• Lead by example during shifts, working alongside the team

✅ Required Qualifications
• Minimum 3 years of barista experience with advanced espresso and milk steaming skills
• Previous experience in a supervisory or management role
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Proven ability to manage schedules, inventory, and ordering systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends, and holidays

⭐ Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with POS systems and inventory management software

• Knowledge of specialty coffee (origin, roasting, brewing methods)
• Prior experience training and developing staff

We’re temporarily closing our doors until Sunday, and honestly, we’re not handling it well either. 😭 There is a chance that we may be able to open Saturday (stay tuned to our socials for updates Friday)

We know, we KNOW – where are you supposed to get coffee that’s actually good? (Nowhere, obviously, but we appreciate you pretending there are other options.)

In the meantime, please support our fellow local coffee shops. They’re lovely people who are almost as caffeinated and charming as we are. We promise they’ll take care of you while we’re gone. Just don’t get TOO attached. 👀
