A little local advice for hiking the Tetons in fall: dress for the day you’re having and the one the mountains might decide to give you.
🌤️ Check conditions before you go. Grand Teton’s trails stay open into fall, but cold mornings, sudden snow, and fast-changing weather are all part of the season.
🧣 Layer up. Temperatures can swing a lot over the course of a single hike, especially once you gain elevation.
🥪 Carry the basics. Extra layers, food, water, and enough time to turn around if the weather stops cooperating.
🐻 Keep bear spray accessible. Not buried at the bottom of your pack. Hike alert, make noise, and skip the headphones.
🦬 Respect the locals. Give bears at least 100 yards; elk, moose, and bison at least 25. If something big is standing where you planned to walk, congratulations: you have a new plan.
🍂 Enjoy the good part. Crisp air, changing aspens, fewer summer crowds, and some of the best hiking weather Jackson gets all year.
Save this for the next bluebird morning, then put your legs in recovery mode back at Ember Lily Spa at Trailborn Jackson Hole.
