Running a bakery starts long before sunrise, and every now and then it's important to take a little time to recharge.

Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse will be closed Monday, June 22 through Thursday, June 25 so our team can enjoy a well-deserved break.

We'll reopen Friday, June 26, rested, refreshed, and ready to fill the cases with your favorite scratch-made treats and keep the coffee flowing.

At Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse, we believe you can taste the difference.🥐

Every day, our bakers arrive early to make our breads, scones, muffins, cookies, pastries, and other baked goods from scratch right here in our kitchen. We don't order frozen bakery items from large distributors and simply reheat them. We mix, shape, bake, and finish our products ourselves using quality ingredients and time-honored baking techniques.

It's more work, but it's worth it.

When you stop into Gedney, you're enjoying bakery items made by people who care deeply about quality, craftsmanship, and giving our community something truly fresh each day.

Today, our hearts are heavy as we remember and honor our dear friend, Joe Olsen.

Joe was a familiar face at Gedney Bakery & Coffeehouse and someone who shared our deep love for this community. He was a passionate supporter of the arts, local history, and the people who make Independence such a special place. Whether attending community events, sharing stories, or simply stopping in for a visit, Joe's kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

One of our fondest memories from when Gedney first opened is of Joe and Judy bringing fresh flowers from their beautiful gardens to place on our tables. It was such a thoughtful gesture that perfectly reflected the warmth and care they have always shown to others. Those flowers helped make Gedney feel like home from the very beginning.

We are grateful for Joe's friendship, his unwavering support, and the countless ways he helped enrich our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Judy, their family, and all who loved him during this difficult time.

Thank you, Joe, for the kindness, friendship, and beauty you shared with us and our community. You will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

This Memorial Day, we honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, along with the veterans who made it home but were lost too soon.
