Hello, everyone!

We wanted to share a brief update and explain our recent absence here.

A couple weeks ago, our three-year-old son had a very serious accident, and for a time we were afraid we would lose him. Through the swift and expert actions of our local first responders, county sheriff's deputies, and medical professionals at the Sanford emergency room and pediatric ICU (and in no small part, the prayers of our family, friends, and community), he has made a full and miraculous recovery. It is impossible to express our eternal gratitude for everyone involved in saving (and praying for) his life.

While we are overjoyed by this outcome, the event has changed things for us. After many days of deliberation and discernment, we have decided to prioritize our family and will not be opening Main Street Humboldt Coffee.

I'm sure many of you will be disappointed at this news, and we're disappointed to bring it to you. We looked forward to serving our community, which is so deserving of nice and fun things.

We appreciate your understanding and support, apologize for any inconvenience, and hope to be given another opportunity in the future to serve you all.

Coffee was first introduced to Europe in the 16th century by Turks during the Ottoman-Hungarian wars. For this reason, the substance was viewed with suspicion, and even denounced by some as "Satan's drink." But in the year 1600, Pope Clement VIII tried coffee and found it so enjoyable that he reputedly said, "Let us cheat the devil by baptizing it."

This hastened the adoption of coffee throughout Europe, and just a century later, London alone would boast more than 3,000 coffee-houses.

We will also carry a wide range of books, focusing especially on classic literature like many of the titles featured below. C.S. Lewis put it best when he said, "If one must choose between reading the new books and reading the old, one must choose the old: not because they are necessarily better but because they contain precisely those truths of which our own age is neglectful."
