Southern Goulash 🍲🧀
This hearty and comforting dish combines ground beef, macaroni, and a blend of flavorful seasonings for a delicious meal.
Cook time: 30 Min
Prep time: 35 Min
Yield: 4-6 servings
Ingredients:
1 lb ground chuck
1 medium onion, chopped
1/3 cup red or green bell pepper, chopped
2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
1 (15 oz) can stewed tomatoes
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
4 cups water
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Dash of Tabasco
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions:
1️⃣ Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef along with the chopped onion and bell pepper over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink and the vegetables are tender.
2️⃣ Add Tomatoes and Seasonings: Stir in the stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, seasoning salt, garlic salt, black pepper, and Cajun seasoning (if using).
3️⃣ Add Macaroni and Water: Add the elbow macaroni and water to the skillet. Stir well to ensure the pasta is fully submerged.
4️⃣ Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer until the macaroni is tender and most of the water is absorbed, about 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. If the mixture seems too dry, add a little more water. If it's too liquid, leave the top off for a while and turn up the heat slightly to allow the excess water to evaporate. Avoid overcooking the pasta.
5️⃣ Add Cheese: Before serving, sprinkle the goulash with grated Parmesan and shredded cheddar cheese. If you used an ovenproof pan, you can place it in the oven to melt the cheese, or simply cover the pan and let the cheese melt on the stove.
6️⃣ Serve: Serve hot and enjoy this comforting and flavorful Southern Goulash!
