Last night was a beautiful reminder of what happens when a good book brings people together. 🖤

The NOIR Society Bookclub welcomed author Joyce E. Brooks for a meaningful conversation about her book, It Ain’t Over! Leading up to the event, Joyce generously donated 50 copies for guests to receive free with the purchase of a meal at NOIR Café.

The room was filled with people who had been moved by her words and came ready to engage. We thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtful dialogue, personal reflections, and connections made around the table.

Thank you, Joyce, for your generosity and for reminding us that there is still more to our stories. And thank you to everyone who shared the evening with us. This is the heart of NOIR Society. 📖✨

Saturday was slammed at the cafe.
So much so, I couldn’t step away to do a wedding tasting I had scheduled at noon.

No matter how great my service was in one aspect, I count that as a failure in the other.

What do you do? Service recovery.

We have to remember the most valuable thing people offer up to us as business owners is their time. It’s the one thing you could never get back.

How did I recover? First, I explained the situation. I thanked them for their consideration, and I asked them for the opportunity to make it up to them. After all, it’s not their fault our lobby is packed.

Another thing is, we have to go above and beyond when that gap in service is on us. So, we rescheduled for my only off day. Since it was late in the evening I cooked us dinner. We sat down, shared a meal and got to know one another as people; as humans.

I am selective about my wedding clients in the season because creativity requires alignment. To those that suggested me, recommended me to that couple, spoke up for me in my absence…

I thank you, and I promise to give them intentional service and care.
