Hilo Skateplaza

Hilo Skateplaza http://vimeo.com/29165426 Our organization is working closely with the Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Hilo Skate Plaza Concept

Our goal is to have a minimum of 25,000 square feet of skatepark concrete, a covered roller rink for hockey, roller derby and other roller sports, lights, restroom facilities, a parking lot, and family recreation space which would include a pavilion, BBQ area, and Keiki playground. Together we have identified an appropriate parcel within the Ho'olulu Sports Complex, near

the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. The land will be formally dedicated to the project upon reaching a fundraising goal of $100,000. At which point we will be able to work towards the initial phase of construction. This Kickstarter project will be a direct reflection of community support. Reaching this immediate goal will demonstrate overwhelming interest and need which in turn will allow for obtainment of community grants, county funding, and future in-kind donations. Our Vision

The creation of a safe, world class recreation venue that serves the Big Island of Hawaii's community and provides a wide variety of economic and recreational opportunities for local merchants, visitors and residents alike. Our Mission

To work with the community at all levels to develop a safe recreational and competitive arena that will serve current and future generations of athletes and those that support the alternative sports, lifestyles and art forms of the people from around Hawaii and the World. Who We Are

The Hilo Skate Plaza Coalition is an organization made up of community member from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. We are dedicated to serving our communities and providing a safe environment for a variety of recreational activities through the building of the Hilo Skate Plaza. Our organization works directly with the non-profit organization Big Island Resource Conservation and Development and is in the process of obtaining our own 501c.3 non-profit status.

Hey guys!

Our next board meeting is NEXT WEEK WED APR 26. This meeting is to welcome new volunteers to the group and talk about where help is needed (Board members, PR/Outreach committee, and Fundraising/Events committee)

If you want to take ACTION and be involved in getting the skatepark built, dm us through FB messenger or email us at [email protected] for meeting time and location. There is limited space so make sure to let us know you’ll be there and we’ll make space. If you can’t be there in person, we might get a zoom going for people to join remotely but we need to know who/how many need it.

The park ain’t gonna get built by itself and if we leave it to the county to do it, it’s gonna take another 15years. We need people to put in the effort and help make it happen. We need people to put in the effort and boost the momentum we’ve picked up this past year.

GET SOME!

Last Wednesday’s workshop was Amazing! I saw a bunch of new faces and we had great discussions on skate park design and cultural representation.

Special thanks to Terri Napeahi, Hekili Lani, and Ho’omai Pascua with the Waiakea Ahupua’a Crown Lands Hiers for sharing their mana’o and the significance of the land so that all involved in this project can can work toward honoring the land and it’s people in the design and building processes.

We look forward to working more with WACLH in the refinement of the park design because representation MATTERS 🧡
