This week I was in a homey mood - and although I got out and did some exploring up north, I also stayed home and painted. Alot. The walls, the trim, next week is the ceiling. It's the reinvented "Art Cafe."

As I was painting I thought not all NH homes look alike. Some are filled with beautiful, useful things. Some need a little work. Some are simply waiting for the right piece to make them feel like home.

Somebody has to say it - Get ready for Fall in New Hampshire! Eeks - ! I know we still have several warm weeks ahead of us, but Fall and the whole "back to school" thing has a way of putting us into our "let's get things done" mode. We want to get outside, make something, and take advantage of any remaining time off we have!

Back-to-school reminder: Don't forget you! Carrie Goodwin at Salt and Soul NH, New Boston NH, made a great point this week.

Parents and caregivers are taking care of all of the details for the kids and the family. Signing all the forms, arranging all the schedules - everyone has what they need. Except you!

Carrie's simple reminder: you don't have to earn rest by running yourself into the ground first. Sometimes 10 minutes is enough. Sometimes 20. Make a little room for yourself with:

Small business owners! Hidden Local NH has become much bigger than a guide to places to visit. We can now report and offer insight on how our readers (your buyers!) move through the site.

It works like this: visitors to our website don't simply find a business and leave. They may begin with a story or seasonal guide, discover a town, search for a home, become interested in a maker or experience, explore something else nearby—and sometimes begin asking a much bigger question: “Could I see myself spending more time here?”

We're calling this our Discovery Engine. At its simplest, we're learning to follow the journey:

Discovery → Intent → Connection → Next Need

We are still early, but our initial data is already showing some fascinating patterns. Stories and guides are often the beginning of the journey, while businesses, makers, products and towns become discoveries along the way.

And that matters differently depending on what business you're in!
