Happy Birthday, Ezra. 🥲🎉
People often ask how Kottage started, and the truth is, it started with prayer in a time Ezra was resting. During that time, God spoke to him through the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 19. Elijah was exhausted, discouraged, and afraid. Before God showed him what was next, He first gave him what he needed—rest and food. A reminder that our compassionate God meets us in our weariness and cares for us, physically and spiritually.
After Ezra’s back surgery, life changed in ways we didn’t expect. We’ve heard the question, “Why something so physically demanding?” And honestly, we’ve wondered the same. But time and time again, we’ve learned that God doesn’t always lead us down the path that makes the most sense. When our good friend recently visited & shared, “God doesn’t look at our strengths,” it confirmed & stayed with us.
It’s been meaningful to watch Ezra run food out to our guests whenever he can, even when standing or sitting for long periods can be difficult. Those moments are miracles and him healing. And whenever I hear him say, “All glory to God,” it’s a testament to God’s grace and strength carrying him through and never about what we can do.
When I look at Kottage, I don’t just see the food we get to serve. I see the prayers, the behind-the-scenes moments, the ways God shows up, and Ezra’s yes.
Thank you for saying yes to God, yes to Kottage, and yes to this journey. I’m grateful to do this with you and Jesus!! 💛
And thank you to VFW Post 6008, to the chefs, small business owners, mentors, our bright team, church community, and sweet guests for your kindness, support, and love toward Ezra. Every encounter and curbside conversation means so much. 🫰🫶🫰
