When Backstreet BBQ opened its doors back in 2000, owners Franky Beck (AKA Pro Beck) and his brother, Bob, were AVID bass tournament fishermen. Slowly, the BBQ life crept in, and tournament fishing had to take a backseat. Turns out, running a BBQ restaurant and fishing tournaments don’t mix too well when they both happen on the weekends.
Bob still slings a rod every now and then, and he even still has the Ranger the brothers won down on Lake Russell back in the ’90s. These days, Franky’s grandson, Kain, has taken his spot on the bow of the boat and is carrying on the Beck family bass fishing tradition.
Backstreet BBQ has been a steady sponsor of Hart County High School Anglers since near the inception of the program. But this year, instead of just handing over a sponsorship check, we asked if we could do something a little different for the kids.
For the 2026 fishing season, Backstreet BBQ and Segars Garage will be awarding the Big Fish Award at each of the interclub tournaments….or, as we like to call it:
🎣 THE HART COUNTY HAWG 🐷
Today was the first tournament of the year, and lo and behold, if a couple of BBQ babies didn’t walk away with the prizes!
🧡 Congratulations to the Middle School team of Cayne Greenway and Grayson Moon, with Grayson bringing a 3.79 pound HAWG to the scales!
🖤 Congratulations to the High School team of Kale Temple and Luke Schnell, with Kale bringing a 3.61 pound HAWG to the scales!
These guys walked away with a plaque to hang in the trophy room and a little something for gas money. 😉😉
A special thank you to club president AJ Kelley for letting us do this for the Anglers!
It’s just a little something extra from Backstreet BBQ and Segars Garage, on top of any club awards, to give these kids one more thing to fish for and maybe to keep a little bit of Pro Beck’s legacy alive. 🖤🧡🎣
