Meet Elise Whang, our Restaurant Manager at Table 1888.

Elise is a graduate of James Madison University, where she earned her B.S. in Hospitality Management with a minor in General Business. While at JMU, Elise had the opportunity to study wine and culture in Napa and Sonoma, experiencing the region’s wineries firsthand and gaining a greater appreciation for the people, places, and stories behind each bottle.

During her senior year, she also spent a semester working at the Joshua Wilton House, where she first worked alongside Ethan, Chef Tom, and several members of the team she now joins again at Table 1888.

Throughout college, Elise worked seasonally at The Capital Grille, an upscale steakhouse in Northern Virginia, before returning full-time after graduation. Her experience there helped shape her approach to fine dining service and restaurant operations while deepening her passion for wine and personalized guest experiences.

For Elise, great hospitality is personal. She loves the small details that make guests feel known and cared for, whether it’s remembering a favorite item, anticipating a need, or creating a genuine connection. Returning to Harrisonburg and joining Table 1888 has been a full-circle opportunity to continue growing in hospitality and wine while creating memorable experiences for the community she came to love during her time at JMU. Elise was a significant help in deciding our brand direction, and she worked on developing training guides and the structure of the front-of-house experience. Her contributions have been an essential part in shaping the experience we're proud to offer today.

The Joshua Wilton House has been a pinnacle part of downtown Harrisonburg for over a century (since 1888, hence the new name 😉). Swipe through to see what it looked like going into renovations and what a few months of work turned it into. We knew going into these renovations that we weren't about to erase that history, but we wanted to give it some room to breathe. Come see it for yourself!

Welcome back, students! And welcome to the Friendly City, parents! A LOT happened on our little corner over the summer - the historic Joshua Wilton House is now Table 1888. For those of you who are new to JMU, we're just down the street from the main campus - the perfect spot for one last family dinner before you head home, or a place to remember for the next visit. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are always welcome. Hope to see you all soon!
