It’s taken me a bit to gather my words since my “I’m back” post from last Friday but here goes nothing.

On Friday, 9/22/23, I smoked food for the first time in 9 months. It was also the first time I’ve fired up the smoker since the official Hochy Smoky mascot relinquished his post as my Chief Quality Sniffer (RIP Ivan 🖤). I didn’t realize how hard it would be as Ivan was such an integral part of this journey for me. If I’m being honest, Ivan probably had more joy hanging out with me, sniffing all the good eats for hours on end and anxiously awaiting for samples to fall to the ground then I did actually smoking the food, for real!

When I fired up the smoker last Friday, I realized that there was a reason I included Ivan in my branding. The memories I have of him hanging out with me as we smoked food for days on end in the summer, cold smoking food in the cold of the winter, him waiting for samples to “accidentally” fall to the ground, or him holding his snoot up high sniffing the smoke fragrance, will never escape my mind.

To me, it was a no brainer to include him in my branding. Having such an incredible persona around as I got started on this journey really made me grow to love smoking food that much more. You will never be forgotten, Ivan. This one’s for you, buddy!

Annnnnnnnd, we’re back! Working on the tailgating menu for the upcoming football season. Smoked baked beans, smoked eggs for smoked deviled eggs and smoked jalapeño poppers! 🤤

Bringing back Easter with style. Hochy Smoky has risen!

- Smoked ham with a dry rub created by yours truly. Glazed over (later) with a mix of OJ, maple syrup, bourbon and some of the dry rub for a little extra glaziness.
- Smoked cauliflower lathered in EVOO and my specialty dry rub.
- Smoked tofu marinated in tamari. Can be eaten by itself or tossed on salad, etc.
- Smoked hard boiled eggs that will be converted to smoked egg salad.

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile y’all! It’s been quite the hectic winter, but fear no more, I haven’t forgotten about my loyal followers/customers. Yes, that’s a mini apron! Most of you probably already know but for those that don’t, there will be a mini Hochy Smoky arriving at the beginning of June.

I figured I’d season the apron a bit in preparation for Baby Hoch’s baby shower tomorrow. One of the many dishes on tap will be 30 lbs of smoked pulled chicken sliders. 🤤 Don’t judge mini Hochy Smoky too hard! 😆
