I'm very happy to announce to all of you that I'm turning one of my other lifelong hobbies into a career. As a young kid I watched my dad cook on an outdoor grill on a daily basis. No rain, hail, snow, thunderstorms, or excessive heat would stop him from busting out the hibachi and loading it up with 30 pieces of Kingsford charcoal. He was some sort of a magician on that grill, and the tongs in his hand were his wand.
Our family left Hawaii and moved to Oregon in 1989 with the dreams and aspirations of opening up our very own Hawaiian food lunch wagon. Several years after moving to the mainland my parents got divorced, and sadly our dreams of the lunch wagon never came true. Since then, I have developed the same love of grilling as my father. Cooking on the grill is my serenity, and making people happy with my food brings me so much joy. I now understand why my dad did it so often, and with such a willing heart. So, 27 years later I'm taking a crack at it. I'll be opening up Baby J's Hawaiian Flava in mid August. Our stage will be at the Gresham Saturday Farmer's Market. I'm beyond excited to share the flavors of Hawaii with all of you. Every plate is guaranteed to be served with the spirit of Aloha.
