Another quiet morning of reflection on the square.
There’s something about these summer-like days in October. The leaves are changing, the pumpkins are out, and yet the afternoon sunshine makes you want to sit outside just a little longer.
After what felt like a month of rain, we needed this. A chance to dry out, open the windows, and feel a little lighter. I didn’t realize how much I’d missed the sunshine until it finally stayed awhile.
All around us, harvest is moving along. Combines in the fields, grain trucks on the roads, and long days for families working to bring the crops in. After so much rain and waiting, these warm, dry days mean more than extra time on the porch. They mean a chance to get back into the fields and keep going.
I’m especially grateful for our farmers and their families. For the early mornings, late nights, meals eaten in the field, and plans made around the weather. Living here, we see so much of that work, but it’s still easy to take it for granted. To everyone putting in those long hours this harvest season: thank you. I hope you get a moment to enjoy this sunshine, too.
I catch myself thinking, “We better enjoy this. We won’t have many more days like it.” Then I wonder how many beautiful days I’ve hurried through without giving them that same attention.
Between work, running kids to activities, and trying to keep up with everything, it’s easy to let a whole day become something you just get through.
But seeing the fields slowly empty reminds me how much can change while we’re busy. Another season wraps up, sometimes before we feel ready to let it go.
So today, I’m appreciating the sunshine, the people working hard around us, and this place we call home.
The colder days will come. The to-do list will still be there. For now, I’m grateful for a little extra warmth—and a reminder to slow down long enough to feel it.
I’m in my shop from 7–10am today, quietly working, serving sips, and as always, reflecting. 🍂☀️
