As we embark on week two of celebrating God’s beautiful plan for human thriving through the Nuclear Family, we want to highlight the gift of children and the power of purposeful parenting.
On our farm, we plant perennials, so that each year and each generation can enjoy increasingly more fruit. In the same way, we believe God teaches us how to parent fruitfully:
1) Receive the little seeds with thanksgiving.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3)
2) Cultivate their growth with care.
“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)
3) Rejoice in the harvest that will come.
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
As we undertook Carl’s Bakery, we were careful to follow the recipes which the Aus family handed down to us-- knowing that Tom’s wisdom and experience in producing baked goods merited our respect. Though we know many will scoff at our method, just the same we commend our heavenly Maker’s recipe for the Nuclear Family!
