My name is Sonephet Manivong, sole proprietor of Sticky Rice. I am a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School (Class of 1996) with an Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I've learned my cooking skills from my uncle, who owns the Sticky Rice restaurant in Ithaca, New York. Starting a restaurant business is prohibitively expensive but after visiting New York City, I was inspired by the food truck culture there and with that thought, I eventually moved back to Grand Island in 2011 to be closer to my family and to start my food truck business. The food truck was always a stepping stone to eventually opening a brick and mortar restaurant, so in March of 2022, I finally opened my restaurant at 305 W. A light and refreshing dish made when fried egg rolls (pork) paired with fresh herbs, cucumbers, pickled radish and carrot on a bed of vermicelli noodles and lettuce. Pour the accompanied chili lime sauce over the dish to make a quick easy meal or wrap the egg rolls, noodles, and vegetables onto the lettuce and dip it into the sauce, however you choose, it's all delicious!

Dear value customers, it has come to our attention about issues regarding our spice level and curry ingredients. In general, spice levels for all our entrees are by default marked “mild” and most entrees don’t have any spiciness to them unless you request it. For certain entrees, they may contain some spiciness due to the nature of the item and how they are prepared. For example, red and green curries are made of Thai red and green chilies and they come already “spicy”. We consider these items mild because they are to our palate, but if you are not too familiar with Thai spices, our mild may be medium or hot to your personal palate. As for the aforementioned curry items, including our Tom Kah and Tom Yum soup, they contain a dried “wood like” bark piece of ingredient called galangal, which is a root plant like ginger, we add for its pungent, aromatic flavor.

Going forward, any items that already contain any spiciness will be default “medium” spice level and remove all galangal root from our items to avoid any personal injury to your mouth.

Return to the Island with The Islander! Golden mangoes and purple sticky rice makes for an exotic taste. The natural purple color comes from the dark hull of the wild sticky rice which is also a little sweeter and nuttier in flavor than white sticky rice, in addition to fibers and antioxidants. EAT PURPLE, BE GOLD.

What is purple sticky rice?
Purple sticky rice is a naturally vibrant, chewy glutinous grain colored by the dark unpolished layer of bran, which leaches out and stains the interior white grain. Its deep color comes from anthocyanins, the same healthy plant compounds found in blueberries. Purple sticky rice is a whole grain packed with high levels of disease-fighting antioxidants, plant-based protein, dietary fiber, and essential iron.

Tom Kem, which translate to salty stew is ironically, just as sweet as it is salty or savory, is a beloved and comforting Laotian dish. The sweetness comes from the caramelization of sugar and seasoning sauce. The hard-boiled quail egg also simmers in the broth and soaks in all the flavors. This mouthwatering dish is served with jasmine rice for the perfect comfort dish.🥢😋
