Three Months of Shuckers… A Whole Lot of Gratitude, a Little Grace, and One VERY Expensive Haircut!
As we reflect on our first three months of Shuckers Oyster Bar & Grill, We want to take a moment to speak from the heart.
First and foremost, THANK YOU.
Thank you to every single person who has walked through our doors, shared a post, recommended us to a friend, left a review, given us another chance, or simply chosen to spend your hard-earned money with our little family-owned business.
We see you. We appreciate you. And we truly value each and every one of you.
But we also want to acknowledge something that isn’t always easy for a business owner to say…
We haven’t always gotten it right.
There have been days when our service didn’t bring its A-game. Maybe your food wasn’t the absolute best it could have been. Maybe the bathroom needed toilet paper, a table needed a little extra attention, or a good old-fashioned dusting was overdue.
We are human. We are learning. We are growing. And sometimes, despite our very best intentions, we fall short.
But please know this: We care. Deeply.
We have taken every review, every compliment, every criticism, every suggestion, and every single dollar you’ve chosen to spend with us to heart. The good feedback encourages us, and the difficult feedback challenges us to be better. We don’t take either for granted.
And while we are incredibly proud of what we’ve built in these first three months, life has a way of reminding us what really matters.
For those who may not know, I’ve spent the last 16 days in the ICU and undergone not one, but TWO brain surgeries.
Sixteen days of hospital walls, uncertainty, prayers, and moments that make you look at life a whole lot differently.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I’ve been reminded just how precious the little things really are.
The ability to sit outside in the cool fall air and watch your dogs play. The comfort of being home with your family. A simple conversation. A good laugh. Another sunrise. Another chance. The opportunity to peel someone’s shrimp
And yes, even the freedom to sit behind a keyboard and tell the world that a small business didn’t quite meet your expectations that day.
Because when you’re lying in an ICU bed, you realize just how much we sometimes take for granted.
That doesn’t mean expectations shouldn’t exist. They absolutely should. You deserve good food, great service, and a wonderful experience when you visit us. And we will continue working hard to give you exactly that. We just ask if we fall short to please ketone one of us make it right before you leave!
But I hope we can all remember something along the way…
There is so much more to life than whatever frustration, disappointment, or difficult moment we happen to be facing right now.
The waitress who seems distracted may be fighting a battle you know nothing about. The cook having a rough day may be carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. The business owner who hasn’t responded to your message might be sitting in a hospital bed fighting a battle of their own.
We truly never know what the person standing next to us is going through.
So be kind. Give grace. Love one another. Be patient. Laugh a little more. Forgive a little quicker. And don’t let the small things steal the joy from the big blessing of simply being alive.
To our customers, our staff, our family, our friends, and this wonderful Granbury community — thank you for believing in us, supporting us, praying for us, and growing with us.
We aren’t perfect. We will never claim to be. But we have big hearts, a whole lot of determination, and a genuine desire to make Shuckers a place this community can be proud of.
We promise to keep listening, keep learning, keep improving, and most importantly, keep showing up with grateful hearts.
And before I go, I have to share one last thing…
Jesus truly has the most wonderful sense of humor!
Apparently, when I came out of my FIRST brain surgery last week, I came out as a UNICORN!
And since we’re talking about appreciating the little things in life, I figured I’d share my newest hairstyle with all of you.
Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is what a $2.5 MILLION haircut looks like!
ZERO STARS. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!
The stylist was a neurosurgeon, the salon was an operating room, and the recovery package included 16 days in the ICU!
I’ve had some expensive hair appointments in my life, but this one takes the cake!
I guess if you’re going to have a bad hair day, you might as well make it a million-dollar one… or TWO AND A HALF MILLION!
But you know what? Hair grows back. Bad days pass. Restaurants get better. Mistakes can be corrected. And tomorrow is never promised.
I’d take a thousand bad hair days for the blessing of another day on this earth.
If these last few weeks have taught me anything, it’s that life is far too short to spend it angry over the little things.
Give people grace. Choose kindness. Support your neighbors. Hug your family. Thank God for another day. And whenever possible, find something to laugh about.
Life is precious. God is good. Grace is everything.
And from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our Shuckers family. We are grateful for every one of you, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
Here’s to growth, second chances, lots of laughter, and hopefully no more $2.5 million haircuts!
With love, faith, and a very grateful heart,
The Shuckers Family
