Well, the power of social media did it again. 🎶
After our last post, a local deputy sheriff stopped by with a friend who works on jukeboxes. After a little tinkering, they actually got it to play.
And wow. Nothing sounds like that anymore.
There were customers in the shop eating when the music started, and instantly the energy went up. Everyone stopped, smiled, and listened. It felt like stepping back in time.
The good news is that the jukebox can be brought back to life. The not so good news is that it needs a full refurbishment. The repairman has generously offered to donate his time, but it will need parts and additional work. Right now, the estimate is somewhere between $500 and $1,200, although they won't know exactly what it needs until they get further into it.
This jukebox was donated to us, and we think it would be pretty fantastic to have it working here at The Commissary. However, we are very intentional about how we use donations and always prioritize putting those funds toward our programs. We're sharing this in the hopes that someone may know where to find parts, have experience with these machines, or would like to help bring this piece of history back to life.
We're also including the repairman's information for transparency purposes. If anyone would like to help with this project, you're more than welcome to reach out to him directly. Or, if you'd prefer to donate through us, you can simply designate that your donation is for the jukebox restoration.
