HHS is asking the public for input on addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, research, and policy and comments are open through July 5.
On one hand, this is an opportunity. Families, people with lived experience, providers, researchers, recovery organizations, and harm reduction advocates all have a chance to weigh in on what is actually helping people survive, stabilize, and recover.
On the other hand, many of us have questions about what voices will ultimately be heard and what approaches will be prioritized. Will evidence based medications like methadone and buprenorphine continue to be fully supported? Will harm reduction, family support, housing, peer support, and recovery services all have a seat at the table? Or will some approaches be elevated while others are sidelined?
Whatever your perspective, this is one of those moments when public comments can help shape the conversation.
If you choose to submit comments, consider sharing:
• What helped your loved one?
• What barriers made recovery harder?
• What policies need to change?
• What services saved lives?
• What is still missing?
