Miss Mama Elk “Socialite” has been having her babies in our yard a few years now, and she’s certainly kept us entertained with her antics. 😂 Apparently she’s decided to take our relationship to the next level—porch visits and garbage-can raids! The Dangerous Beartooth Highway is one of the most dramatic and awe-inspiring mountain roads in the United States. Running between Montana and Wyoming, it climbs steeply into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and reaches elevations of over 10,000 feet. The highway feels less like a standard paved route and more like a high-altitude passage carved through raw, untamed terrain. Snow can linger on the shoulders even in summer, and the air grows noticeably thinner as you ascend toward Beartooth Pass.

Beartooth Highway is famous for its breathtaking views, but also for its unpredictable and sometimes harsh conditions. Drivers encounter tight switchbacks, narrow lanes, and long stretches with steep drop-offs that leave little room for error. Weather changes quickly at this elevation—sunshine can give way to fog, hail, or snow within minutes, making visibility and traction suddenly more challenging. It’s a route that demands patience and respect rather than speed.

Despite its danger, the Beartooth Highway is considered one of the most beautiful scenic drives in North America. The road crosses vast alpine plateaus dotted with glacial lakes that reflect the sky like mirrors, and the surrounding peaks rise sharply in every direction. Wildlife such as mountain goats and marmots are often seen near the roadside, adding to the feeling of traveling through a high-altitude wilderness rather than a constructed highway. Gardiner Montana… “Nature’s Favorite Entrance” thru Mammoth, Lamar Valley, Cooke City, Tower loop, Canyon Falls. One of the most scenic & beautiful parts of Yellowstone.

05/30/26: We enjoyed a great day on the Upper Loop today. This was day 2 for a family staying in West Yellowstone. The wildlife did not disappoint with 5 grizzly bears, 5 black bears, 2 wolf sightings (4 wolves), 6 moose, 2 fox, 3 coyotes, elk, bison, mountain goats, mule deer, whitetail deer, eagles, swans, sandhill cranes, pronghorn and mountain bluebirds. Although the day ended rainy, we had a great day on the north side.

🌫️ 🏔️ Spring into early summer for Yellowstone is exciting time. 🦌 🌲 The park awakens with landscapes of all variety.
🦬 Babies being born and frolicking, the geyser steam even more prominent, 🍃green starts popping up, less people moving about.

Gardiner, north entrance, the original entrance to Yellowstone, wildlife’s favorite hang out always open year around.
