We made it home last night from our week in Destin.
Monday-weather delays made us scramble at the last minute, but we made it. Our grocery order didn’t arrive that evening and we found out at 10 pm that it had been cancelled. So after the long day, we were at Walmart at 11 pm shopping for 32 people!

Tuesday-once again the weather didn’t cooperate. We had a small window in the rain and got to go on a boat to snorkel and watch dolphins. All of the kids faced fears and got into the ocean, many for the first time.

Wednesday-finally a beautiful day. We got to go parasailing. Once again, fears were faced as we got 31/32 people in our group hanging 400 feet in the air from a parachute. Then had a bonfire on the beach, that turned into a dance party, and somehow a chicken costume got involved. We even saw someone catch a 5 ft shark off the beach.

Thursday-we went on a pontoon boat, road jet skis and hung out at Crab Island.

The activities are a blast, and the pictures look like a lot of fun. But it takes work and a lot of learning to get to that point. Many of the kids flew and spent a week away from their families for the first time. We had to shop for and prepare meals, clean the house, do laundry, manage medications, bathe independently, follow budgets, purchase souvenirs, try new foods and much more.

This trip wouldn’t be possible without the Peer Leaders and adults that attended this trip. They encourage the kids to get out of their comfort zones and try new things, and help care for their well being. What makes the trip so memorable is the genuine friendships that are evident and enhanced by their shared experiences.

Thank you to the parents for trusting us with your kids, and to everyone that has a part in making this experience possible.
