BNC reviews Artemis- a book by Andy Weir (author of the Martian and Project Hail Mary)
Artemis takes place on a future moon city, near where the Apollo 11 landing took place. The protagonist, “Jazz” is caught up in a scheme involving criminal mafia, city politics, and the law. She tries to do right but always seems to make things way worse for herself and her friends.
For me, this is a fantastic read, but not Andy Weir’s best work (Hail Mary is the winner). It’s worth your time absolutely but I had problems with the protagonist’s motives, thinking, and personality. Not to knock Weir too much, but she was a female character written by a male, and it really stands out in the book in a lot of ways.
As with all of Weir’s books, this was a fast paced fun read and I couldn’t put it down. Some of the betrayals and plot twists were pretty obvious, but it was still worth it to read. Actually, this book reads like a Dan Brown novel but in space. A true popcorn book, but not as deep and meaningful as his other two.
The café recommends the book, but gives it a
7/10
