Another week done! I had an amazing week and sold out of the Thursday/Friday pastries. I am now gearing up for graduation week and looking ahead to summer. I will be closed Monday May 4th and Tuesday May 5th to do some needed business catch up. (My signs need a touch up and I’ll need to get my new product line ready for rolling out!)
This has been the hardest I have ever worked, but I wake up and get in every day because it’s so rewarding running my own business. It’s beyond rewarding to be able to get caught up with so many people daily and share coffee with them too. Thank you everyone and see you next week!

Open until 1:30pm and as you may know already- Thursday and Fridays are pastry days here at BNC!

BNC reviews Artemis- a book by Andy Weir (author of the Martian and Project Hail Mary)

Artemis takes place on a future moon city, near where the Apollo 11 landing took place. The protagonist, “Jazz” is caught up in a scheme involving criminal mafia, city politics, and the law. She tries to do right but always seems to make things way worse for herself and her friends.

For me, this is a fantastic read, but not Andy Weir’s best work (Hail Mary is the winner). It’s worth your time absolutely but I had problems with the protagonist’s motives, thinking, and personality. Not to knock Weir too much, but she was a female character written by a male, and it really stands out in the book in a lot of ways.
As with all of Weir’s books, this was a fast paced fun read and I couldn’t put it down. Some of the betrayals and plot twists were pretty obvious, but it was still worth it to read. Actually, this book reads like a Dan Brown novel but in space. A true popcorn book, but not as deep and meaningful as his other two.
The café recommends the book, but gives it a

Well we are at the end of another week! I can finally say that for three weeks in a row, my sales and visitor count has moved up significantly. Thank you again everyone who supports me! Also-
Go check out for their AI story they just ran (or come by the Book Nook Cafe for a free paper from them! I am so thankful for this article to be published. AI has many ups and downs. I originally drew up the plans for this business years ago, when ChatGPT was very much a new fancy tool to use, and not associated as heavily with job killing and data centers ruining our electric grid and polluting our water.
I am fully committed to hiring and working with local artists and businesses and am moving away from AI fully. It helped me with daydreaming the concept, but I find that people come here for the one big thing local coffee shops can offer- human interaction and a human touch on products, marketing, and ideas.
See you all at the Friends of the Library this weekend, or for coffees Monday. Get rest Gainesville, and get in some nature before it’s hot outside again!

“Is there a place we can leave a tip?” It’s a question I am asked frequently. Before I get on my soap box, I am for tipping everyone in the service industry! They work so hard and are worth anything we can give.

I built this business with the plan to make my prices as transparent as possible, which means I, and anyone I hire in the future, will get a living wage and you pay one simple price. Instead of a tip, just come back and visit me again, or recommend me to friends and family. I know money is tough for a lot of people right now, so I want the experience and quality of my teas and coffee to be as high as possible, with full price transparency too.

Thanks for reading this, and I’m here until 1:30pm today!

My week has officially ended just in time to start again tomorrow morning at 7!

With the active market season drawing to a close, we are eying the summer with enthusiasm. Starting a business has been very challenging, but I’ve learned that this idea works, and people absolutely love what we have to offer. There is work to do yet! Thank you everyone who reads my weekly fireside chats here and see you bright and early tomorrow! (Shout out to my sister for sharing this awesome mug photo with me! I promise to start carrying our branded mugs soon again!)
