We found 16th Avenue Diner on Yelp Gainesville and saw it had great reviews, so you know we had to check it out! It’s tucked away in a cute little plaza that we’ve somehow never noticed before. We visited on a weekend, but there was an open table, so we were seated quickly.

The staff was really nice and attentive, and the diner had a clean, authentic, family-style feel. I ordered the steak and two eggs breakfast, and everything was delicious! I got sunny-side-up eggs, which can sometimes be tricky to cook perfectly, but both yolks were intact, and they were cooked just right. The home fries were also really good and crispy!

The steak had a little extra fat, but our cat was happy when I brought some home for him! 😂 The prices were reasonable, too, which made the experience even better.

We highly recommend 16th Ave. Diner if you’re looking for a great local breakfast spot!

🥯☕ A little taste of New York in Gainesville!

Thank you to Luke's New York Bagel Shop and Yelp Gainesville for inviting us out to try this cute breakfast spot! We love discovering new places for Doody Destination, and we probably wouldn’t have found this one without Yelp!

As someone who grew up visiting New York, Kissa absolutely loved the decor! The colorful wallpaper and subway-inspired details were so fun and brought back NYC vibes. There’s plenty of space inside, outdoor seating, and a decent amount of parking nearby.

Kissa tried the blueberry bagel with regular cream cheese, and it was delicious! It was generously sized, and the fact that it was actually BLUE made it even more fun. But the real star was the Cannoli Latte. Kissa thinks it might be the best latte she’s ever had! It was perfectly made, and we’d definitely come back for the coffee alone.

The staff was very friendly, but unfortunately, after our drinks arrived quickly, we waited about 20 minutes for our food because our order was forgotten. They were busy, and we understand things happen, but it did affect our experience.

We’re giving Luke’s 4 out of 5 stars. We loved the atmosphere, enjoyed the food, and would happily return for another latte!

We’ve been looking for a Brazilian restaurant because I really miss a small, family-owned spot on Cape Cod, and it’s been way too long since I’ve had authentic Brazilian food. So, of course, we found Samba Brazilian Kitchen on Yelp Gainesville, and you know I had to try it!

Let’s start with our arrival. It honestly didn’t even look like there was a restaurant there! The building looks almost like apartments or condos, but let me tell you: this place is a hidden gem tucked away in this little neighborhood.

If it’s raining, we would recommend making a reservation because the restaurant is small inside, but it is totally worth it! They do offer bar style seating as well as outside seating. We absolutely loved the authentic vibe. We had multiple servers who all took great care of us, and I believe one of our servers was named Mateo. He was fabulous at explaining the menu to us. Kissa was telling him how much she missed the little Brazilian spot we used to have up on Cape Cod and how much we travel, and he was so friendly and helpful.

Kissa started with a Peach Bellini, which tasted like they literally squeezed a fresh peach right into the glass. It was SO fresh and refreshing!

For an appetizer, we ordered the QUEIJO COALHO, and let me tell you, this might be the yummiest appetizer Kissa has ever had! The glaze was sweet and absolutely perfect, and the cheese was cooked just right. It had that delicious little crunch without being too much. The sweetness was the little cheat I needed before my meal. 

Next up was my PICANHA GRELHADA. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the rice had such delicious flavor. The sautéed onions were the perfect match on top. We feel like sometimes restaurants skimp out on the onions, but there were SO many here that almost every bite of steak had some, and K loved every minute of it!

The steak was a little more fatty than what we are used to. Where K is from up North, they usually slice some of that off for you, so this was actually my first time having a full cut of picanha. Although, when we brought some home to our cat, he absolutely LOVED the fat.

Overall, we really loved the decor and the vibe of this place. If you’re looking for romantic date night, this is the place to go!

We can’t recommend this place enough. The friendly service, delicious food, and authentic Brazilian cuisine, spices, and flavors were absolutely wonderful. It honestly made me miss Cape Cod and brought back memories of the little family-owned place K loved there.

We highly recommend this hidden gem for your next Brazilian date night!

We’ll be honest… sometimes we assume hotel restaurants and bars are going to be more like dives and not necessarily that good. So when my husband suggested we check out The Comeback, The Comeback Gainesville we weren’t sure what to expect.

BUT we are SO happy we went!

You literally walk right through the beautiful hotel lobby and into this really nice restaurant and bar. The inside is gorgeous and has such a sophisticated feel, plus we loved all the little UF Gator touches and decorations throughout. 🐊💙🧡

Our waitress was fantastic, too!

We started with the $6 cheesy tots, and they were crispy, cheesy, cooked perfectly, and whatever that sauce was on top… SO GOOD!

We also got the onion rings, and they had that perfect crispy crunch without being soggy in the middle.

Then came the turkey club… and WOW. That thing was MASSIVE! The portions here are seriously generous. We even took half of the sandwich home for our teenager because there was no way we could finish it.

They also had b**r specials, and since watching the game is FREE, we were surprised there weren’t more people there! There are what feels like a million TVs, so it’s such a cool spot to watch the game without waiting forever for a seat.

If you’ve ever driven by or stayed at the hotel and wondered about The Comeback, especially on game day… JUST GO! 🏈

We had a really great time, loved the food, loved the atmosphere, and we’ll definitely be back! ❤️
