Daybreak Pleasant Street is a locally owned and operated breakfast / lunch restaurant located in the Pleasant Street Neighborhood. We are focused on locally sourced quality ingredients and from scratch cooking to create the best possible dishes. The list will continue to grow as we do. With a goal to be dietarily inclusive, everyone can find something to enjoy at Daybreak.

With heavy hearts we have decided to remain closed. Patty and I set out to open a small, intimate, locally driven restaurant with Daybreak, and somehow, we tapped into something special. We feel greatly humbled by all the love and positive responses from the Pleasant Str neighborhood and the Gainesville community. We will reopen one day, but will be at a different location.
Being deep in the neighborhood, I felt responsible not to spread covid. We stayed closed hoping public policy would adjust to get ahold of the virus, but no such luck. As we go into fall, infections are rising and we had to make a decision.

We’re still here!
Hoping to open back up as soon as it seems safe to do so. With the big increase in new infections recently, we don’t meet the criteria for phase 2 reopening with indoor seating.
Those who’ve been here know how small and intimate we are with only 24 seats. It is a very fun and vibrant place with hard working folks doing our best.
We have some things in the works toward updating and expanding. I’ll share more when we’re closer to opening back up.

Cooks are fiercely proud of the years it took to build their talent to do the same exact thing every day with passion and precision. A few of us are fortunate enough to have a little space cut out to showcase what we can do, that’s the local restaurant. Some growing to something not so small, but they are still filled with local people working in them. Those cooks could become your next favorite chef with a neighborhood restaurant, bakery, market stand, cooking class, etc.
Daybreak will remain closed for now and I’m confident that we will make it through this, but a lot of other places won’t. Without relief, doors remain closed forever and millions of jobs will be lost across the country. Independent, local restaurants closed our doors to protect lives, and now we need help from Congress to protect us. Link in comments.

We’ll be closed for regular service today, Monday, March 16th to let our team have an extra day off to rest and/or help their family and friends get ready for the coming weeks. But I’ll be here handing out free coffee and a cookie to whomever wants to stop by! Patty will be in and out too. Bring your own cup or we have plant-based disposable cups with lids. There’s a park next-door, we have benches out, come say hi!
We are proud to be your neighborhood restaurant and will assess the best way to do all we can for all we can moving forward.

Closing today for some maintenance and upkeep. This historic building takes some extra TLC from time to time. Today’s the day, and I might even get some time for extra baking 😃
