I don’t normally make posts like this, but after what happened last night, I feel like this is something worth saying.
In the middle of our busy Friday night dinner rush, with dozens of orders waiting to be made, the power went out throughout the Cool Springs area — and stayed out for over an hour. We lost our lights, phones, POS system and credit-card processing.
My cooks literally pulled out the flashlights on their phones and kept cooking while the rest of us scrambled to take care of the customers and orders we already had.
I could not have been more proud of my staff. Every customer in our dining room chose to stay and eat in the dimly lit restaurant, with only the remaining evening daylight coming through the windows. Nearly everyone was incredibly understanding, patient and even complimented us on how we handled the situation.
Unfortunately, we also received a one-star Google review from someone who stated in that same review that they had been to Mineo’s dozens of times over the years and that every single previous experience had been great.
As a small-business owner, that hurts.
Reviews have a very real impact on small businesses. When something happens that is completely outside of a business’s control, I just wish people would stop for a moment and remember that there are real people behind that business doing everything they can.
After more than 20 years of owning Mineo’s, I know we won’t get everything right every single time. When we make a mistake, I will own it and do my best to make it right. But last night wasn’t a mistake. It was an unexpected power outage, and I watched my employees work their butts off in the dark trying to take care of everyone.
So more than anything, I just want to say how proud I am of my staff and how grateful I am for the customers who showed them patience, kindness and understanding last night. ❤️
Small businesses need that more than you probably realize.
