Meet the “Chickies”! We will miss you ladies!

Six months ago, a Franklin Friend who was new to the area posted on the Women of Williamson County page that she was looking to make friends. Four other women commented that they would love to be friends, and their first lunch was organized. They met at Izzy’s Feel Good Food on Columbia Avenue, and their server affectionately called them “Chickies.” The name - and their friendship - stuck, and now you’ll see the Chickies laughing regularly at Izzy’s, Biscuit Love, and other brunch and lunch spots around Franklin. They range in age from 51 - 71, come from all different states (or countries!), and even with their varying backgrounds they support each other in triumphs and challenges. If you’re looking to meet new Franklin Friends, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there! You might just become besties. ❤️

With heavy hearts, we have decided to permanently shut our doors at Izzy’s. There are so many emotions tied to our restaurant that are all coming to the surface. We have had amazingly good times: getting to know our community, meeting strangers that have become regulars and friends, hosting life celebration dinners, catering events, feeding soccer teams, musical nights that led to singing and dancing, and in general - throwing great parties. Our goal from the start was to create a spot where you could take the family after a game or a Saturday night out, in a comfortable but fun environment. We welcomed everyone. I think we accomplished that goal, and we hope we created a backdrop for lasting memories that you have shared with your family and friends in our place. The good times are what motivates a restaurant owner and staff - it’s what creates a passion for our industry.
But, there is the other side of the restaurant coin that essentially is pain and hard work. A lot has been said about how tough the restaurant business is, but even more so how tough the last few years in particular have been. Costs of food, beverage, supplies, and even labor have increased by 40-50%, but there is a limit on how much you can charge for a burger and fries. There is constant stress, accompanied by hundreds of sleepless, restless nights - worrying about the livelihoods of all of our staff, who really became like family. My running joke, that I will not miss, is walking into the restaurant every day and being told 1) some piece of equipment broke 2) we are out of something 3) one of our staff called out…usually the dishwasher (except Pancho - he always showed up). We’d like to encourage the public to keep supporting local, family-owned places here in our community. We applaud all of the restaurants out there that are still making it work and still keeping up the fight: we know how hard that is. Our doors will close after service on February 10th.
For us, there may be some other business ventures coming from the Izzy’s family in the near future. Whatever that future holds, we will continue to welcome everyone to have a seat at our table.
