You folks remember that yummy baked sausage that we had the night of the pancake supper? Well guess what! We’re having that same kind for our special this week! I’ll post a picture later but Baked Sausage, Gourmet Potatoes, and a delicious Crunchy Lettuce Salad is what’s for lunch! A little note on Vanilla and Beaver Butts. Now you may wonder why there’s any connection between these two things. In fact, currently, there isn’t much connection but there used to be. The beaver has castor sacs located under its tail that the animal uses to mark its territory. Castoreum was harvested by fur trappers and used for things such as perfumes ect. I don’t know who first decided to try adding it to food for flavor but they were a braver soul then I am! Long story short, the use of castoreum in artificial vanilla has faded out. I don’t know exactly how they make artificial vanilla currently and in all honesty , we might not want to know!
Maybe it’s better than beaver butts. Maybe not. 😂
We received a shipment of REAL vanilla not long ago and I’d love to get some sold before we close down. It’s got two ingredients. Vodka and real, true vanilla beans. No beaver butts or lab grown ingredients included. See you Thursday and Friday!

Today I need to make a really hard post. We’ve taken this Eatery one day at a time and trusted the good Lord to lead our next steps. Right now it seems best for the situation to close down The Songbird. We have went round and round trying to see our way forward with keeping it open and it just doesn’t seem possible. We have a little baby that will be arriving anytime now and our dear family that needs us to be present with them as well.
This year has been absolutely amazing. We’ve enjoyed so much the chance to get to know each and every one of you. And we will miss you so much!! We don’t know where this stepping stone will lead us to but we are still here in the community and if there’s anything we can do, just let us know. Quinton will still have The Songbird Roastery and I will probably be doing some baking at times. If you need coffee beans, just give us a call. Our farm name is Ever Happy Farm so you can give a follow there if you want to keep updated with baked good sales etc.
I want to give a special thanks to Dean and Lynn for all their support this past year. We never could have done this without them. They were instrumental in the success of The Songbird. Also, we want to thank all our employees we’ve had through the past year. You’ve done absolutely amazing. A special thank you to Emmy. You’ve been here from beginning to end. From painting The Songbird logo on the wall to fixing my mistakes and filling in for me and everything in between. Thank you!!
Friday the 16th will be our last day open, so if you have gift cards etc, now is the time to use them.

Do come in and see us before we close. We will miss you!!
