Oct. 9, 2008: 6-4 Cav opened the new MWR facility on FOB Bostick. Fiddler’s Green was assembled from lumber recycled when the floor boards of tents were recovered prior to the start of their latest barracks construction project.

Big Red One TBT: June 6, 1944 - American assault troops of the 3rd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, carrying full equipment including a machine gun, move along a cliff on Omaha Beach, Collville-Sur-Mer, at Normandy, France. Vast quantities of equipment, brought ashore from landing craft, lay at the base of the cliff.

On 7 October 1920, the 1st Division organized under the peacetime TO&E, which included two organic infantry brigades of two infantry regiments each, one engineer regiment; one observation squadron; one field artillery brigade of two field artillery regiments; one medical regiment; one division quartermaster train; and a special troops command replacing the remainder of the division train. The total authorized strength of this TO&E was 19,385. The 1st Division was one of three infantry divisions and one cavalry division that was authorized to remain at full peacetime strength.

October 1995 to October 1996: 1st Infantry Division units were the first U.S. troops to move into the war-torn country and played a key role in Bosnia. The 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment was attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division during Operation Joint Endeavor.

Sept. 24, 1962: Last elements of 2nd Battle Group, 12th Inf. arrive in Berlin to reinforce Berlin Brigade. This would mark it as the first unit of the “Big Red One” to enter that city and help reassert the right of free access by the United States Forces.
