MONTGOMERY, AL – Americans for Prosperity-Alabama (AFP-AL) applauds the Alabama House of Representatives for joining the Alabama Senate in passing SB197, which will make it easier for food trucks to operate in the state. The bill will remove unnecessary red tape that currently requires food truck operators to get additional local permits for operating in new counties, even if temporarily.

AFP-AL State Director Adam Thompson released the following statement:

“AFP-AL would like to thank Sen. Dan Roberts and Rep. Ben Robbins for their leadership in getting this bill passed in the statehouse. We’d also like to thank the food truck owners, including John Leddy, who told us how much this bill would benefit them. Small businesses are the backbone of the Alabama economy, and we should be doing all we can to make it easier, not harder, for them to succeed. We urge Governor Ivey to quickly sign this bill into law.”

I urge you to participate in shaping the future of small business ownership in Alabama. Your involvement will not only benefit others but also contribute to the statewide effort. We require assistance from everyone in contacting Representatives via email and phone calls. If each person dedicates 5 minutes to this cause, it could significantly impact the perception of our initiative. Please use the template below to show your support for SB197.

Subject: SUPPORT SB197 - Request for Placement on House Special Order Calendar
Dear [Speaker Ledbetter / Chairman Pringle],
My name is [Your Name] and I am a [resident / small business owner] in [Your City/County]. I am writing to strongly urge you to place SB197 (Mobile Food Vendor Inspections) on the House Special Order Calendar for a floor vote as soon as possible.
Currently, food truck operators in Alabama face a confusing and expensive "patchwork" of local health and fire inspections. SB197 offers a common-sense solution by:
Allowing a single, valid health and fire inspection to be recognized statewide.
Reducing redundant fees and "red tape" for local entrepreneurs.
Ensuring high safety standards through a uniform, state-approved fire inspection process.
This bill has already passed the Senate with strong support. As a [voter/business owner], I believe this is a critical step in making Alabama a more business-friendly state for our mobile vendors.
Thank you for your leadership and for your time in considering this request. I look forward to seeing SB197 move forward in the House.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
