Last Friday, we had a very special lady, Mary Ann Parker (Migl), come for dinner with her son-in-law and daughter, Chuck and Kimberly Gavaletz, from the Fort Worth, Texas area. Mary Ann informed me that she grew up in Flatonia, and when she was in 11th grade, she worked for The Thulemeyer's Jewelry Store located in our beautiful building. The owners were Mr. Richard Thulemeyer and Mrs. Vlasta Thulemeyer. The picture shown on the bar shows the owners with a young blonde lady named Juanita Smith Mica (Benzer), the mother of Lori Alice Berger (who lived in Flatonia all her life and was dedicated to many local community endeavors). From the late 40's to the 50's the jewelry store shared the building with a local optometrist, Dr. Cook. The store closed around 1960. What we don't know is who the brunette next to Juanita is in the photo. We are asking anyone who might know or have a clue to her identity to respond. We were honored to meet the lovely and sweet Mary Ann and feel so blessed that she shared this story with us. We personally love Flatonia and feel our community embraces the most precious things in life, and offers all that to each of us calling her home.
