Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth: the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, and a reminder that freedom, labor, and community are deeply connected.

This year, we also wanted to highlight part of Flagstaff’s own story.

From educators and activists to community leaders and business owners, Black residents helped shape the city we know today, often in ways that are overlooked in larger celebrations and historical narratives.

To learn more, read our latest blog: Juneteenth: Freedom, Labor & Legacy in Flagstaff.

As Flagstaff marks the Centennial of Route 66, we’ve been thinking about the parts of the story that don’t always get the same attention.

The Southside has been part of that Route 66 history from the beginning. Shaped by the railroad before it, and by the highway after it. It’s a neighborhood where movement, work, and community have always been closely tied together.

We’ve put together a longer look at that history on the Evans blog. Check out the link below!

Every stop along Route 66 has a story, and for the Centennial of the route, we’re celebrating one of Flagstaff’s most historic neighborhoods: the Southside.

Stop by Evans Fish & Chips for a special Route 66-inspired treat: three sausage rolls with dipping sauce for just $6.60. While you’re here, pick up our exclusive Southside and Route 66 history handout, created to highlight the people, places, and stories that helped shape this corner of Flagstaff.

We’ll also have co****le set up in the alley starting at 11 AM. So come hang out, learn a little local history, and enjoy a classic roadside stop experience right here in the heart of the Southside.

We’re starting something new!

At Evans, food has always been about more than what’s on the plate. It’s about where it comes from, how it’s used, and the stories behind it.

So we are introducing our new Fish of the Month blog: a simple look at the different fish and species, one month at a time.

We’re kicking it off with Rockfish.

A name that actually refers to a wide group of fish rather than a single species, Rockfish are found along the Pacific coast and are often grouped under different names depending on where they’re caught and how they’re sold.

Our first installment looks at what Rockfish are, why naming can vary so much in seafood, and how that shapes what ends up on the plate.
