Another one of my homesteading attempts this year was to make ketchup using tomatoes from our garden. We did not have a bumper crop of tomatoes like we usually do- we had just enough for one batch of salsa & one batch of ketchup. Yes! I’m proud of my 5 jars of ketchup! It’s delicious if I do say so myself😉

My parents & I recently found some “gold”! I call it that because of all the work it took to make persimmon pulp! I felt a bit like a homesteader- picking the persimmons up from the ground, grinding them thru the masher and finally the end result- Beautiful orange persimmon pulp!

Now the fun part! Persimmon cookies, pudding & jam!

Friday Pie day was a success! My Grandma’s rolling pin got a lot of action this week!

Huge thank you to everyone who purchased pies- you keep me busy!
My small batch homemade pies are made with love & fruit from my backyard! (Blackberries & Rhubarb)

Which type of Grandma baker are you?

My Grandma Gower baked by the recipe. I have some of her cookbooks and cherished handwritten recipes. She was known for her cobblers, pies & sugar cookies.

My Grandma Stites baked without recipes. She knew how much to mix in by the way it looked. She had the recipes down by heart. The only recipe in her handwriting that I have is her peanut butter balls. On holidays her back freezer was always covered with chocolate pies, coconut cream pies and more.

I feel like I’m more by the recipe- but am learning to follow my heart as I experiment.
