My Assistant Fire Chief (League of Fire member) gave me a sauce challenge and I think I nailed it! Made a mango & lime hot sauce as well as a charred pear hot sauce. I also hooked him up with the famous Smo-Ken BBQ Spicy Pesto.

This year at the 2019 Humboldt County Fair, we again entered our favorite sauces. This year our Sweet BBQ Sauce won 1st place with Spicy BBQ Sauce taking 2nd. We also won 1st place with our Spicy Teriyaki Sauce. Great job Ken!!

Last year (2018) at the Humboldt County Fair in Ferndale CA, we entered out BBQ Sauce, Spicy Teriyaki Sauce and BBQ Rub. We brought home a 1st for our Spicy BBQ Sauce as well as Best in the Category and Best in the Division. Our Sweet BBQ Sauce won 2nd place as well as our Spicy Teriyaki and BBQ Rub. It was a great first showing at the Fair especially taking home People’s Choice in the Guy Fieri BBQ Surf & Turf Competition.

2018 Humboldt County Fair People’s Choice Award Winner... SMO-KEN BBQ for the 2nd year in a row. So proud of our team. We were fortunate to have family come down from Oregon to help us out. So big thanks go out to Mike & Vickie Stemwedel. Not only did SMO-KEN BBQ win People’s Choice, but his spicy BBQ sauce got 1st, 100%, an award for best of category and a best of division. Pretty proud wife right here.

Well I looked back at my photo album and I can find 5 out of the 7 awards Ken has won from the Chili Cook-Off. Impressive, but I'm a PROUD Wife!!
