Directions from Asheville: Take I-240 E to exit 9 (US-74 ALT E). Continue on US-74 for 5.8 miles. Turn left onto Old US Hwy 74 (before Angelo's restaurant). Park in the gravel parking ribbon in front of the tap house. Please do not park in the Angelo's or Hilltop Ice Cream parking areas. Overflow parking is available at 1288 Charlotte Hwy (accessed from Charlotte Hwy).

is closed from June 1-5 so park staff can repair an area damaged by a landslide from last week’s rains. If you’ve planned to come visit and support the area this week, here’s ten things you can do while the park is closed:

1.) Visit Lake Lure’s public beach which is now open. 🏊‍♀️
2.) Visit and see their fairy gardens. 🧚
3.) Go Hiking at 🥾
4.) Rent a boat for the whole family from - they’re pet friendly! 🚤
5.) Mine for gems at 🪎
6.) Check out the impressive rock gardens built by at Smokey Mountain Cowboy. 🪨
7.) Try Axe Throwing or the Escape Room at 🪓
8.) Visit to pick your own lavender, enjoy treats from their bakery, and see the many beautiful flowers blooming in their flower fields. Last week’s floods did hit some of their fields so they are in need of support. 🌻
9.) Visit the many shops and restaurants in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. 🛍️ Here’s a list:

While visiting all these amazing local businesses be sure to check out the Green Salamander Art trail- a scavenger hunt for works of art by local artists featuring Hickory Nut Gorge’s most elusive resident the Green Salamander! Did you know Hickory Nut Gorge is the only place in the world where they exist? Grab a scavenger hunt sheet from participating businesses and find as many as you can while learning about what makes them so special. 🦎

Don’t go too crazy running to get here, there’s plenty of plants for everyone! 😂 After last night’s rain they’re even happier and ready to go home with you! 🌱

In case you didn’t see our other posts- we’re having a free plant giveaway this weekend at Whistle Hop! A local green house was done selling for the season and we’ve got their leftover veggies starts all waiting for a new home. Some of them were a bit thirsty by the time we got them but we’ve given them all a thorough watering and they’ve all perked right back up. We’ve got tons of plants including squash, peppers, and multiple varieties of tomatoes. Come grab a tray (or two!) and feed your family with fresh home grown veggies this season! 🌱🧑‍🌾🪏

Jackie and Cynthia are two of our neighbors. I heard their story right after the storm from a relative of the folks who found them. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. 18 of our neighbors were washed away by Helene’s waters. Only four of them were found alive. One in a truck, another survived in a tree, and these two on their mattress. I truly cannot imagine the strength it takes to rebuild your life after surviving such trauma. Please share their story and if you are able to please donate help these two miraculous survivors rebuild their lives. ❤️🙏
