These folks have been serving up incredibly tasty plates for YEARS, and they're good ol' country people doing barbecue the way they know how to do barbecue.
They didn't move here from somewhere else, “recreate” BBQ, slap a trendy story on it, and sprinkle a bunch of haughty pretentiousness and hate toward everybody else over the top.
They just make GOOD FOOD.
No superiority complex required.
And that's something Asheville's food scene could use a lot more of.
Because somewhere along the way, some people confused being a “foodie” with being the loudest person in the room.
Posing, gossiping, loud-mouth haters are NOT foodies.
They're COMMUNITY CLOWNS. 🤡
If your version of supporting local food requires tearing other people down, controlling the conversation, playing favorites, spreading gossip, or deciding that only your little circle deserves attention, you're not building a food community, you are destroying it.
You're building a clique.
And we're not interested.
We want the hole-in-the-wall joints. The longtime locals. The food trucks. The overlooked restaurants. The cooks busting their asses. The servers working doubles. The owners who don't have an influencer army but can put a plate in front of you that'll shut the whole damn table up.
That's foodie culture.
