🕰️ Nearly 80 Years of History at 1140 River Road
Did you know the building that Erini Restaurant calls home has been welcoming guests for generations?
Long before it became Erini, 1140 River Road had already established itself as a destination for dining, celebrations, and special occasions along the Delaware River.
☕ Before 1947 – Fischer’s Tea Room
The earliest restaurant we’ve uncovered at the property was Fischer’s Tea Room.
🍽️ 1947 – Landwehr’s Restaurant
On March 2, 1947, Landwehr’s Restaurant opened in the former Fischer’s Tea Room. With four dining rooms, Landwehr’s became a well-known destination and served generations of local families for more than 30 years.
🌊 Late 1970s–1980s – Peroni’s Waterfront
The property entered another chapter as Peroni’s Waterfront Restaurant, continuing its tradition of dining and hospitality along River Road.
🍷 1990s – Merlino’s Waterfront
Later, Merlino’s Waterfront carried on the legacy and became another familiar name to generations of area residents.
🥂 2007–2009 – Diamond’s Riverside
Diamond’s Riverside continued the property’s long history as a place for dining, celebrations, and memories.
💜 Erini Restaurant – Present Day
Today, Erini is proud to be the latest chapter in this remarkable property’s story. While the restaurant names have changed over the decades, one thing hasn’t: 1140 River Road has remained a place where people come together.
For nearly 80 years, families have walked through these doors to enjoy dinner, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, gather with friends, and make memories.
And we think that’s pretty special.
Generations of food. Generations of memories. One special place on the Delaware.
We’d also LOVE to hear from you! ❤️ Do you remember dining at Landwehr’s, Peroni’s, Merlino’s, or Diamond’s? Share your memories—and especially any old photos, menus, matchbooks, postcards, or stories—in the comments. We’d love to continue uncovering the history of the place we’re fortunate enough to call home!
